Description I swear I saw a chalky arm of the Milky Way overhead
I watched, in a haze to penetrate the depths of that precious galaxy
Immersed, so far away, this wonderful Earth;
It does not flicker as other bodies do.

I swear I saw a multitude of falling meteors
But they were just stars (and not even shooting ones),
Pretty nonetheless
Crystals thrown as darts into velvet night,
Iridescent like a cavernous domed geode,
A dizzying swell overhead.
Mercurial, as it goes, with their flickering,
And yet the whole cosmic thing is orchestrated (the wielder of the baton is unimportant).

To save my lungs from gasping, I almost turned to go
And caught in that perfect second
A movement in the northern quadrant of the sky
A real trail of light
A mad dash against death
An interim cymbal crash
And one more!
