"I'm home!" Matt called out as he wet through the door, kicking off his Vans and petting Bella with his bandaged right hand. He saw Valary, looking radiant as she always did, come down the stairs. Her big eyes were drawn to the bandages that covered his hand.
"Hey," she kissed him on the cheek, then went to his hand, "What did you do? Did you get yourself banged up?" She held his hand delicately, not knowing the truth behind the medicinal tape that was wrapped around her husband's right hand.
"More like tatted up." he explained, unwrapping his hand, revealing a death bat inked on red, pussy skin. It wasn't just any deathbat - it was a deathbat of Jimmy, art from their last record. It captured Jimmy perfectly - wild, zany-looking, free from everything that held back most people. She remembered his laugh, for it rang in her ears since he'd passed on.
"Wow..." escaped Val's pink lips. Tears welled up in her eyes, which met Matt's. It was almost two months ago since he died, and Matt was hit hardest. They'd been friends long before Valary and Michelle became friends with him, and she remembered them being almost attached at the hip. As they got older, it was still the same - the only time they were apart before meeting would be now, with Jimmy dead and Matt a newlywed.
Val took him in her arms, rubbing his hard, toned back and arms. She heard his sobs, and he held her to him so tight she felt it a bit hard to breathe. They both sank to their knees and let tears fall on each other as they sobbed in each other's arms. She felt Matt's strong, warm hands hold her face and bring it to his. Both of their eyes were stained with tears, red and bloodshot from the sorrow.
"Please," he pleaded with a voice that seemed bruised and bleeding with tears, "Please, never leave me like Jimmy did...!" Valary could only bite her lip and tremble. She kissed him, her silent way of calming him down and telling him she will always be there for him. Even as they kissed, Matt's closed eyes kept playing the one scene from the "Seize the Day" video that killed him inside; the one where Val gets hit by a van and dies. The next vision would be from Jimmy's funeral, with Brian trying his best to fulfill Jimmy's wish of performing a solo ontop of his coffin, and not finishing because it was too painful. Both of these sights played in his mind, teasing him of what awaited him and everyone he loved eventually. Listening to his wife's deep breathing when their lips parted assured him that she was alive. He rested his head on her shoulder, his lips brushing the surface of her neck.
"I'm always going to be here for you, Matt. I always have, and always will." the words she said comforted him. He held her closer, breathing into her neck and stroking her dark hair, slowly coming alive inside with her in his arms and heart.
