Interesting, I had never imagined that this character could a reference to Rom. But, yes, it's a possibility.

it's not just a possibility, the Torpedo suite (Brock Jones) was part of the ROM spaceknight series story line. How it ended up with Mickey and the subsequent conflict The New Warriors had with ROM's arch enemy the dire wraiths was no coincidence have a look at this link when you have moment...
