The magnificant beast is a ShiShi, also known as a Korean Dog/Chinese Lion. (Fuu dog / fu dog) These "Lion Dogs" Are often found outside of Buddist/Japanese temples and are said to ward off evil spirits. This was my chosen piece for my Swan Sis's "Beasts of Yore Portfilio" =3Related content

I think you're wrong. In Korea we call it Haetae (Haitai).

Having lived on Okinawa as a child, I have found memories of shishi statues adorning buildings and entryways. We even have a miniature set ourselves as decoration. Needlesstosay, they bring up happy memories.

As a child, i grew up in Okinawa Japan, on and off military base. The shishi dog is a beautiful creature, and one that is very, very dear to my heart. and to see one pictured so well, and even one with it's mouth open! a rare delight, there should be more of these out there.
