My entry for the Risembool Ranger "Fan Character" Contest.

I was originally going to do all three of the fan characters, but the picture looked so good with these two that I left them alone.

So yes, there is a whole song and dance that goes with these guys, and I had been writing the story to go with them when my computer (pushing 7 years old) burnt out and died for good.

Anyways...

.o.

The Ishbalan you see before you is a hermaphrodite chimera that answers to the name "Claire" (short for Clairvoyant). Claire is not one person but two--a brother and sister. Claire has developed muscles for the most part but still retains the protective fat that many females have, small breasts included. Claire identifies as a male for the most part, the brother far more dominant than the sister.

During the Ishbalan war, the Seraph Alchemist Johanna Ocularis was key to helping one of the many projects in motion to create Philosopher Stones. One alchemist theorized that using "perfect beings" would provide for a better sacrifice. A "perfect being" in alchemy is a hermaphrodite, but the alchemists discovered quickly that bonding relatives proved to have better results than people of different genetic backgrounds. The Seraph Alchemist used a form of human transmutation to possess people (she's a secret weapon of the military) and was used to infiltrate many parts of Ishbal. She brought back the two siblings that made up Claire.

Through alchemy the chimera Claire was made. However, as Claire was still young and the promised day still very far off, Claire was forced to suffer for many years. One arm was cut off to punish Claire when he attacked the alchemists, and his other hand was cut off in a guard's panic when he thought Claire was going to hurt him. One leg was sawed off mid-femur out of torture, and the other leg was lost mid-knee in an accident. Claire is also blind in one eye as a result of a small chemical explosion, too. During his stay he was also subject to psychological abuse, and raped once by a guard while he was in a weakened state from having been forced to fast. The damage left him a very violent person, and it took several people just to hold him still for a moment.

During his stay began to notice that he was developing slight precognition, and was thus able to evade the guards more and more. He didn't know how it formed, but he suspected it was in response to losing so many limbs that his body adapted.

Johanna began to feel pity for the torment he suffered, and in a rush of rebellion she freed him and led him to the surface of Laboratory Five, where the two escaped off into the night. Claire initially intended to kill her, but decided the time wasn't right for his revenge. For months they hid out in the Central slums, waiting for the right time to escape the city when Claire spotted the scientist responsible for his condition out walking with his little daughter. In madness he ran out and cut the girl's arm from his, then killed the scientist himself. His daughter passed out from shock, but Johanna refused to leave her to die. When she awoke, she couldn't recall anything of what happened, and so began to go by Gretchen, as Claire picked out for her.

Johanna was eventually captured by the police, but Claire and Gretchen both made it to her grandfather's home in a distant village before then. There they stayed for many years, remaining even when Johanna's grandfather died. The town welcomed Gretchen well enough, but Claire stuck to the shadows the entire time, so many never saw him. Gretchen had developed minor telekinesis after she lost her arm (which she never got automail for) and learned to fix things using her power. Unfortunately news of her power reached Central, and Roy Mustang was forced to send someone out to have a look at her: Edward Elric.

.o.

Anyways, in the end, Ed and Alphonse slowly learn the story of Gretchen and Claire, as well as the origins behind a mysterious female in hollow armor that protects the town. Gretchen starts to develop feelings for Alphonse and they bond, much to Claire's displeasure, as she was the only thing he had control over in his life anymore. After recognizing how truly messed up Claire is the brothers devise a plan to free her and get her away from Claire forever, calling on the aid of Roy and Riza to join the fight. Part of the plan was to distract Claire while Alphonse put distant between him and Gretchen, with Ed pretending to be slightly flirtatious with Claire as the chimera had developed some attraction for him. During the distraction Claire has a brief moment of pause where he gets the chance to read the future, and discovers that Ed's ploy was all a lie.

The scene that you see is the attack ensuing after Claire realized he'd been betrayed. Claire is planning to choke Edward and is shoving him back against a wall. The ribbon in Claire's hand came from Ed's hair.

So are there any occasions when the sister pops out even though the brother is dominant

Not really. Her brother more or less crushed her. She may as well be dead--the only intact part of her is her body.
