It's an interesting transition of colors. The bluish tones quite convincingly give the appearance of roots. The purplish tones and her hair, by way of contrast, seems to evoke the feeling of wild grass, or a kind of very puffy flower. Viewing the image from right to left, then, I can imagine the image presents a very poignant moment.
At the same time, her expression can hardly be called confident. It's anxious, perhaps a bit tired. She seems like the kind of character that might be putting up a front of strength, perhaps because her friends need her to, or for some other purpose that we don't know about.
And that, I think, is the most fascinating aspect of the image, actually. Roots are the part of the plant that we don't normally see. This image seems to work to rectify that, at least a little bit.
