Description A mix of traditional art (sketch and ink), my old method of coloring and my new tablet. Maybe switching methods in the middle of the pic wasn't the best idea, but hey. New tablet. What can I say?

I wasn't really thinking when doing the original sketch, it wasn't even going to be a full picture so I didn't bother putting any thought into the composition- I kind of wish I did now though because the right side annoys me. It also shows that I need work on my destruction scenes. And despite the fact that I can see a million mistakes here already, I'm still gonna ask for critiques simply because this took me a while to finish and I'd love feedback on it.

Comments are appreciated! ^_^

Danny Phantom was created by Butch Hartman.
Art is by me.

The main thing that stands out to me is the emotional impact and the indecision implicit in this drawing. It represents the traditional "angel on one shoulder, devil on the other" dilemma that plauges everyone. The red eyes at the top also seem to suggest a sense of forboding, as if Danny doesn't quite know which path he will eventually take. Although a piece of fan art, the universality of not knowing which path to take or not knowing what the future holds comes through just as strongly in this drawing as in RObert Frost's "The Road Not Taken." So for being able to convey a sense in a drawing (and one that was immediately detectable to the viewer of the piece) I m giving this highest marks for impact and vision.

The one thing that stands out for possible improvement would be the coloring and the shading. The element of indecision, while conveyed quite nicely by the drastic differences between the two scenes, is lost somewhat because the colors have the same intensity on both sides. Although it may seem cliched to do so, a darker, more shadowy coloring on the right side of the picture would help to convey the sense of forboding implicit in it.

Thank you! ^_^

I didn't even think of making the right side 'darker' tone wise, but I see what you mean when you say it would have had a better impact. Thanks, I'll be sure to keep that in mind for the future. ^_^

There are a couple of minor anatomy goofs I'm sure you've already noticed, but they look to be primarily the sort that gets worked out with practice. You've got a good grasp of anatomy body-part-lengths so far, which is a serious point to appreciate. You've also done a bit of shadowing in places that I'm going to remember the next time I draw. :3

A single point I noticed that you might want to work on would be shoulders/armpits: you've got the shoulders' width-proportions pretty well down, and you've got a grasp of arm-lengths, but all of the bodies you've drawn here have very square shoulders, with little room for armpit muscle and joints. The shoulder might be able to move the arm up and down like one, but it's not a hinge. You'll work that out with time, also.

Handy tip that makes no sense but is cool anyway: When people walk, they tend to have their feet with theor toes pointed out. I think their stability is improved that way, on average.

By the way, for all that you didn't put much thought into the composition, I like the frame of black around the two scenes, and the eyes at the top. It's a clever way of adding mood to the picture, as well as giving otherwise non-attention-attracting space a role in the picture.

I went back and looked at the shoulders, I had never noticed that aspect of my bodies before, thanks for pointing it out. I'll be sure to remember it for future pictures. ^_^

Rrrgh, now that I re-read my comment, I notice that I've misexplained the whole 'armpit' thing. You've got muscles and all, and even gave Dan some rather impressive ones. The corner of the shoulder, however, should actually be as though someone cut the tip of the corner off, leaving it altogether corner-ish, but having two smaller corners instead of one big one.

I don't think I'm describing it properly even now, so I'll leave whatever you do in the future with those details up to you. Anyway, good luck!

I mentioned this in my critique, but this drawing has a very strong emotional impact and conveys nicely the idea of indecision/worry. DEfinite favorite.
