Description This is Amaretto. This poor pup has been in the shelter for almost two months I'm not sure why, she is a sweetheart. Every time I walk by her kennel she has a toy in her mouth and her tail is wagging. She loves her toys (and doesn't destroy them!) She just likes to carry them around. She is 8 years old.

that always happens to shelter and unadopted animals.

not everyone is able to see the beauty inside the dog for some reason :/
the ones who do are often those who can't adopt them.

Yeah, sadly I already have two dogs and they would be too jealous if I brought another one home... plus I'd already have 10 dogs by now if I adopted all the ones I want (ok, way more than 10). But I generally don't let it bother me that they are in the shelter... until I see them week after week.

Awww!!! I would take that little cutie pie in a heart beat! 8 years old, and in a shelter? That's no way to end the little part of her life Sad to say.

Thankfully everyone around the shelter loves her and gives her lots of love, but, still. It's certainly not the same as a nice warm home

Yeah My dog was in her shelter for almost a full year. And she was only 1-2 years old. And the other half she lived on the streets, abandoned left in a park  It's horrible, because shelters can only afford soooo much food for every dog, that they are skin and bones. Or at least my dog was. At least she has skin on her. But, I agree, its nothing like a warm home, and winter is coming up so fast. I would be afraid, my dog recently passed, and she was, gosh, 15 years? And her bones would ache real bad in the winter,  so if I worked at a shelter, I would have some serious crying fits, towards the elders, with their joints aching.

Luckily our shelter has heat and all the dogs have cots to sleep on But, no couch to cuddle on at night, or people to follow all day. As nice as any shelter can try to make the environment it just won't be the same as a real home. And that's sad Ours has dogs well fed. I've never seen a dog there for a year! At one of our other shelters one was around for maybe 6 months? That's the longest I've ever seen. I know another one near us, that I have not volunteered at, only takes in strays and they have some that end up spending their life there
