Description
The little boy slid the last piece of circuitry in place and screwed the panel closed. His face radiated satisfaction.

"All finished, Charlie."

Charlie looked at his small master with what passed for puzzlement on his mechanical features.

"But sir, why five hearts? Surely one would have been enough for a humble being such as myself."

The boy smiled with pride. "It's an upgrade! The perfect backup system. Now you can never die, you will be my friend forever. And there's not enough kindness in the world, Charlie. Maybe you will make a difference."

Charlie thought it wise not to point out that he would never "die", anyway. He just nodded and silently resolved to make sure he brought five hearts worth of kindness into the world, so as not to disappoint the little master.
