A black panther indeed! In my mind, Severus's patronus would be a black panther (in silver) if not for his dedication to Lily.
I once read a fanfic (which I have not been able to relocate, rats!) in which the premise as "What if J.K. Rowling and Rudyard Kipling met over tea?" When Harry's Kiplingesque foster parents first encounter Snape, they say, "I see you brought Bagheera."
