maybe that's because you take that shot seriously. I don't really take it seriously. Of course, if you were trying to depict perfectly a star preventing the paparazzi, that's awkward. It's very overplayed, I guess that's what gives it a funny touch
Self-criticism is good anyway. That way, you won't get so damn arrogant like others can be ^^

Meaning before you can be full of yourself or an egotist, you have to have confidence in your self.
