It's been a long time since I've done a true digital painting.

A big thanks to for offering some pointers as I worked my way through this piece.
I have to try this painted style more often.

Very well done piece, but my biggest issue is with the shading.
While realistic, it doesn't seem to be deep enough in some places, such as on Applebloom, she should be a bit darker unless she was positioned more in the tree's shadow, which would then be more pronounced. The same goes fro AJ's back half (the area away from the bloom of the moon.
on a semi-related note, were the timberwolves in the shadow meant to have more features showing or just their eyes? there seems to be the indication of light on one muzzle. If that was your goal, then i would recommend bringing the wolves in to focus more with an outline or two.
lastly, the wolf in the foreground with AJ seems to be made of leaves and paper, maybe just a tad more definition of bark would help, but that's a personal thing there. XP

I do love this, and i think you do really good but maybe its because i'm a stickler for people getting the original style from the original show. Besides from that i think the scares on Applejack's face would have a little more red on them, if those are fresh scares, they should have a lot of blood on them. and the timber wolves i personally thinks should be bigger. besides that, the lighting is good, the expression on AppleJack's face is perfect for the moment and AppleJack looks epic. Can't wait to see more. and more of AppleJack please.

I have a follow up picture that's been sitting on my hard drive for a few weeks. I'm debating whether I should finish it... Either way, it definitely won't happen until after I finish the next part of my Core of the Apple comic. -Which should be out sometime next week.

And yes, I often have to re-learn things when I need certain skills too due to that I practice/do it too seldom.
But, every time you re-learn something, a little bit more will stay in memory than last time.

My OC can tame Timberwolves because she grew up around them, but she really doesn't exist huh? Oh well... This painting is absolutely fantastic! It really captures Applejack's love for Applebloom.
