Description Date: November 2000
Tools of the trade: 0.5mm Pentel Sharp mechanical pencil & Charcoal

One of the most famous picture of World War II has got to the Iwo Jima picture. Although there are is an extra hand in the statue in Washington D.C., the source of this drawing came from the actual picture. So do not bother trying to count the hands. This was the first and only picture I used that combined the mediums of a pencil and a charcoal. I thought the charcoal would give an extra punch to it by giving it a stronger contrast. If this technique is effective, then please let me know.

I dont really like the content, its so 'USA conquers somewhere else where they dont belong'. But I think the charcoal/pencil combo works out well.

Looks good so far. Are you planning to finish the ground and all? Just wondering. By the way, did you know that this particular photo that became so famous was actually of the second flag raised? They re-raised the flag for the photographers.
