I have a question then. I am working on a animation of a lamp getting knocked over by a bouncing ball for a class project & I am having troubles making the lamp cord move with the lamp as it falls over. I tried to link them together and it makes the lamp animate totally different then how I have it set up in the set key animation timeline. I have also tried to animate the line or lamp cord seperatley with auto key and set key and neither works the line doesnt move. It stays the same is it was after I moved it. Its really hard to explain but is there a way to animate a line that is renderable?

first pointer on this one m8y is to use rigid bodies, there are great tutorials on rigid bodies in max itself, either that or there is a good one on 3dkingdom.org, as for the cable, i would class that as a soft body, again look it up, you could do that or make the cable a flex object, experiment m8y, it will go wrong, but in the end it will go right. the animation may be staying put because you have linked the objects, if the parents moves the child will follow, i cant see an easy way to hand do it m8y, rigid and soft bodies will take the stress out of it, and it will look very real.

Wooow this is unique! It's good when people use 3d modelling not only to copy some objects from real world!

one thing, black colour is washed out, u could use lower reflection ammount!

nathy-d In reply to PasMater [2005-02-15 19:12:32 +0000 UTC]

not sure what u mean by washed out m8y???? the material only has a reflection value of 2% i think...

Hey man. This looks really cool and very detailed. However - it does look a bit like a toy.
Maybe it's because of the skylight and the white background - same as my Taxi thing.
But I do think if you detail the textures more with little holes where it's been bumped or paint scraped off at a few places, specially corners, it's look much more 'bigger than humans' size.

But seriously well done on this.

nathy-d In reply to Serve [2005-02-15 15:22:02 +0000 UTC]

thanks bud, i appreciate your comment, i think when it is put into a scene with different lighting rig it should look better, there is a bump map on the yellow materials but they are not showing with the lighting environment, decay is a good idea, but i want this one to look nice and new for now, u will see why later...

not really thought of an environment yet, so i am open to suggestions, any ideas???

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

supernova7 In reply to nathy-d [2005-02-16 02:02:46 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm...let's see.

I could see it on a construction site, right over a newly-dug hole or mineshaft...or sitting in an abandoned junk yard at night fall... Maybe exploring a dark cave. I can't really picture what kind of tasks it would be used for, so the possibilities are pretty broad. (It doesn't have obvious constructon-type tools, doesn't have weapons, no cargo space, etc...Just a good old-fashioned cool-looking design )

But hey, if you let me know what ideas you had for it, I wouldn't mind brainstorming with ya.
let me know
