Yup, you're right! xD I own it. But the idea came from a strange daydream I had, in which Maria was a ninja girl and Shadow was her apprentice. adshkj
Then, when I saw that pic, I thought "OMG, that's just like ninja Maria should be!"
I tried to change it but somehow I didn't. x'D

I've read through the book so many times that I recognised the design straight away from the thumbnail.

Sounds like a cool idea!
To have made it look a little different, you could have had her hair down instead of up, changed the outfit's colours and design and also altered the stance a little bit (Maybe, change the direction of the wind or made her head face a different way). I may not have recognised it then.
I have a very keen eye for this kind of thing. No wonder people I know find me slightly annoying when I over-analyse things. Consider me a 'kind-of' female Sherlock Holmes. ^^
