A few years ago we took in a rescued grey fox kit we named Jessica when she was found to be deaf. At that time my kid’s older friends had been reading some book series in which all the Native American characters were skin walkers and they were a little afraid to come around us for a while. I always suspected that my kid had suggested to them that Jessica was her cousin.

I think these creatures might be the inspiration of the creatures of a webseries I like called
"No Evil"
Though from your depiction they have a look of the werewolf.
