April is such a classic damsel in distress. Also like to point out how the mirror adds more depth to this picture. It's a very interesting idea.

It's funny, as much as she's thought of as a classic damsel (The show itself made fun of it a couple times), I don't remember a whole lot of April scenes in TMNT, despite watching it a lot growing up. Certainly not in the same way as I do Penny Gadget. I wonder if it's because she wasn't subject to as much in the way of peril/death traps.

I actually went through all 200 episodes (or however many there were; I don't know the exact number) of the original series over the last couple of years, and it seemed to me that April actually got tied up a lot MORE often than I expected she would. And I mean a LOT more. I had forgotten just how often it happened during the show, and it made me think about how much my fondness for DiDs can be directly traced back to April O'Neil. If the Ninja Turtles hadn't been such a major part of my youth, it's quite likely my fondness for bound and gagged damsels would never have developed, at least not to the same extent.
I'm thinking I must have gone into my rewatch with modern expectations. I figured April would get kidnapped a few times early in the show, like in Season 1 and 2, just to sell the idea of the Turtles being heroes and saving her, and then it would stop. But it never stopped. It just kept happening. No modern show would ever let its main heroine get tied up and gagged this many times over the lifetime of the show. They'd probably do it once or twice, just to get people excited, and then stop. But not the original TMNT! (Although, to be fair, the turtles themselves got caught and tied up a lot, too)
No wonder I liked this show so much!

It's interesting that you mention the turtles themselves getting caught and tied up as well. I don't know precisely where the cause and effect is, but for whatever reason, it's the "group scenes" in shows like TMNT or The Super Mario Bros. Super Show (Or Inspector Gadget, for that matter) that stuck with me, and as an adult, I definitely enjoy being the one tied up in addition to seeing pretty young ladies bound and gagged.
