Yes ^^ It helps so much with understanding how light works with fur and face structure. I feel my art has improved so much with me looking at taxidermy. And if you're ever concerned with cruelty and all of that , people do sell soft mounts from foxes and other animals who were hit by cars or that died of natural deaths.

I actually ended up selling these two. Only because they were not really perfect for the quality of work I was looking for. But be prepared to be spending any where from $250-$800 for a good quality mount.

But yes. Having a dog model for you is very helpful. I use my little dog for more so puppy poses and my large dog for like wolves and other canines. BUT they are harder to pose and get them to stay still.

I don't have a problem with taxidermy provided that the hunter used 100% of the animal and gave a quick, cruelty-free death. (The hunter needs to thoroughly respect the animals and not kill only for one part of the animal or for "fun" as that is cruel.)

I keep my soft mounts out of my dogs reach XD or else he will eat them...
the coyote was a custom made. He was $315.00 shipped and the red was $175.00 because the owner just wanted to get ride of him.
I found the fox by going on the search here looking under ( soft mount fox for sale) So if you want one, you can check that out. Or get a custom order from someone. I am gettin a grey fox on sunday he has horns ^^ and Im getting a marble fox made soon with blue eyes.. then i will be done XD
