Oh-snappitty-snap, pony OCs.

Now, I will admit upfront that there are two things about these characters that could potentially turn people off of them: one, they are the foals of Twilight and Flash Sentry, and Flash isn't exactly the most popular character in the series; aaaand two, I made them freakin' alicorns, and alicorn OCs are practically blasphemy to much of the fandom.

But before you write them off just for their species (or heritage), just hear me out for a second.

First, on alicorn OCs in general: I don't see what the big deal is. It's just a species. People should be allowed to make their original characters whatever species they want.

"But...but...Mary Sues!", you may say. But think for a moment: is the species of an OC really the sole determining factor of Suedom? Sure, many alicorn OCs to fall into a Mary Sue/Gary Stu category, but it often has more to it than simply being an alicorn. Unicorn, pegasus, and earth pony OCs can be Sues, too. And believe it or not, it's possible to have one or two typically Sue-ish traits in a character without making that character a full-blown Mary Sue.

Now that that's more or less out of the way, a word on these characters specifically. I've been working on concepts for these two for several months now, but this is the first time I've had a version I considered finalized enough to post online (though some aspects are still subject to change). Neither of them were originally intended to be alicorns; in my first concepts, Nova was a regular pegasus and Daybreak was a regular unicorn. Why change that? Because I thought alicorn status and the expectations that come with it, such as being extra responsible or naturally talented at magic, might add a little more depth to their plights as characters.

Also, I out to mention that because they were born into the "royal family", they do carry the titles of "Prince" and "Princess". However, said titles are merely that: titles. Nova and Daybreak carry no real political power in Equestria and will not succeed their mother as Princess of Magic or whatever.

Nova is the older of the pair by about two years. She is playful, curious, and free-spirited. Though she possess a wealth of raw magical talent, she has never been very interested in sitting down and honing in her abilities, which she views as "too much work" (it drives Twilight crazy). Nova hates responsibility and being asked to "behave like a lady" in front of guests and could hardly care less about what others think of her. She'd rather be outside flying or blasting loud, upbeat music. Music is one of Nova's passions--perhaps the only thing she's willing to sit still and learn about--and Flash enjoys teaching her what he knows. Her cutie mark is a sort of "supernova" representing her constant bursts of enthusiasm.

Daybreak is about the same age that the CMC are depicted in the show (so around 9-10-ish) and is still a blank flank. He's a lot more reserved than Nova and spends a lot of time tailing his sister, trying to remind her that she ought to be studying, practicing, or otherwise just staying out of trouble (not that she ever heeds his advice). His raw magical abilities are much weaker than Nova's, which frustrates him a lot, and he works his tail off practicing all the spells that Twilight can teach him. He's no stranger to hard work and constantly strives to improve. Because he likes to study magic so much, he has a rather extensive knowledge of magical theory, even though his own ability to preform those theories is a little weak.
