Description
This is the main character of my newest project, with the temporary name "Sword Princess Tale".Her name is Amalthea and she's the youngest of two daughters of a Queen in a story-book-like fantasy world where women rule...!
More info soon! I'll even make a homepage for this one!
Hopefully, this project will be my next long manga project, hopefully more than one book and hopefully with TOKYOPOP by my side. We'll see....
B4-sized, done with steel nib (G-pen) and ink (Pilot) on matte inkpaper.
About 5 hours.

rocking artwork as always, but the shading on this one totally blows my mind, especially her armour and the chainmail skirt. holy hell o_0
also her hair turned out nicely and the bow is a nice touch.
I really like her serene almost mediative face.
only point of critique really, is the grip of the sword, for a blade that size, it's kinda short =3

Well, yes, maybe, but it's a quite thin and mid-length sword, so it's supposed to be a one-hand sword. But she tends to grip it with both her hands, for strenght.

Not to split words, but I have a little experience with real swords (got some friends in the liveblade cicles, swung a few swords and axes). Now a girl of her size would need some serious muscle or excellent technique to use a sword that size with any efficiantcy, which is possible, but depends on how talented a warrior she is (but then again. It's manga, realisme is subjective
BUT, just for reference, If you find yourself in Copenhagen, I recommend swinging by Tøjhus museet, they got the largest sword collection in scandinavia if memory serves

Well, she IS a Swords Princess, trained since she could walk and she lives in a world where matriarchy rules and women are brought up to fight and defend. So she has muscles.
Also, doesn't the weight of a Sword differ depending on what kind of materials is used?

The grip of her sword ain't all that shot infact, if it's a classic european onehand blade, the wide cross piece threw me of and put me in mind of a hand and a half blade (my personal preference 
they average around 2kgs in weight (ofcause if you go with mythical materials like mitrill or something like that it can be lighter
anyways, I'll keep an eye on the project, sound really interesting. always liked strong female characters.

Beautiful strong female lead in well designed armour, hammer a great plot together and I'd read that
hmmm personally I'd go with a rapier, or a slightly heavier blade of same design, but not a broadsword. there's a middle ground. but I forget it's name (I'll get back to you on that)
Rapiers are more elegant weapons, lighter faster, but the sword I have in mind still have enough weight to cut

It is beautiful! I think you have true talent. What I want to draw like that! I love every curl in her hair, and especially the great sword. This is drawn by hand, right? Where did you learn to draw?

Yes, by hand. I use green leeds to make the sketch, and ink on top with steel nib (G-pen).
I have been practicing for a looong time. I have been drawing comics/manga for 12 years, professionally for 5 years. The best way to get good is just to draw alot, and practice different techniques. And remember to finish your pictures! A sketch is just a sketch, but if you ink it, scan it and color it, it is a finished artwork! And you will also learn more if you finish your art, plus get the awesome satisfaction of finishing stuff!

I think I'm going to break myself over this one, hahaha. I want to have as much details as possible (before it's too much). Have you checked Kaori Mori's "A Brides Story"? It's really detailed but never too much. That's my goal!

Wow. I am at a loss for words right now. Hair and clothing are impressive - the Sword almost seems too simple in comparsion. But... damn, this is very, very good!

I get the whole idea about the sword, and it looks very reminiscent of [link] which is very nice.
It's just that it doesn't look quite as detailed / worked out as the rest of the design.
How did you pick that particular type of blade? Have you considered other types? I think she might look good handling a Rapier [link] or maybe even a Foil [link] Can't help it, but she has something French/Renaissance-y going.

Yes, but I don't want the sword to be to historical, because that would ruin the story-book feeling, I think. I also don't want it to be too light or too heavy. It needs to be big enough to kill a dragon with, and I'm affraid a Rapier or a Foil might take too much time, just giving the dragon stab wounds. But I don't want the sword to be a typical oversized asian styled sword, because she should be able to carry it with her all the time, without looking like a total boffer-freak (if you get what I'm at).
The design was made in a haste, I confess, but I though it worked...?

True, too historical ain't good if you go for "magical sword". However, Rapier and Foil go for the instant kill by piercing vital organs, with a bit of magic empowerement I'd say they could easiley be believable Dragonkillers (you might want to check out Charlotte from Samurai Spirits for reference if you are bored [link] ) - I totally get that you don't want to have it end like this [link] (eventhough it's damn cool
Anyways, your design is working and as I said is nicely reminiscent of some 80ies mangas/anime. Just stating it wasn't quite on the same level as the rest of the artwork in terms of detail/attention is minor nitpicking.
