Description It is Spring, Yellow Lake is melting, what do I do, walk out onto it and take some photos. Its interesting to walk onto a lake that has an inch of water on top of the ice ... people actually stop and make sure you are okay. I think this is the best photo of Yellow Lake I have taken to date, and yes its a dark photo because I want it that way.

Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake.
Matthew 14:25

Hahaha, are you implying that Lake Genezareth was frozen when Jesus walked on it?

Looks pretty cool, in both meanings of the word ;] Almost as if there are footsteps on the ice in the foreground.

LOL, no I don't think so, but those are footprints in the foreground. Thanks for the comment. It was a fun photo to take.

LOL Yea ...I think you covered my feelings of this photo as well. It was a little creepy walking onto the Ice with the water pooling on top of it, But it seemed solid enough to take the photo ... gives you an adrenaline rush.

Climbing a mountain isn't as wrong feeling as walking onto melting ice ... I sat on top of a mountain for 6 hours today ...taking 418 photos of the same view ... There better be one I'm happy with

I saw it look like that the day before, but this day I just had to stop ... it was just to cool, you don't get this opportunity very often.

Thanks, it was one of those photos I had to take, how offten do you get to walk to the center of a lake and get this effect.

Thank-you very much, Glad you like it.
LOL, my methods = hit and miss. I take 100's of photos and just keep clicking anything that looks good, playing with exposures and aperture a bit. Then I grab the photos I like, take my raw files, split them into 3 exposers in PS, The turn them into an HDR using photomatrix...mess with all the options I can (I like saturating most of my photos a little), try to get it as close to what It looked in real as I can, then back to PS I go to clean up any little detractions, bright spots, dark spots, a little snow drift I don't like ... tiny touch ups. One thing I have started doing is painting the corners dark... that way our eye goes more into the photo. The most important step I share it with several people, Ask who they would crop it ... or I make 2 versions and ask which they like better, or ask where they look first on the photo, see if they are looking where I wanted them to look. I hate there ideas most of the time ... so I let the photo sit there for a week, go back to them, try what they said, and often there ideas get new ideas from there critic.
But your stuff is amazing. All this is probably useless ranting but you asked for it , but you could try painting your corners darker (just a little bit), see if you like it.
Your turn to rant LOL

Don't ever worry about offering critique, I'm quite open to it, and state so
in the comment section. I know some people can be stuck up about their art
and what-not but honestly I'm here to learn, and if people don't say anything, it
just makes it that much harder.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try your techniques out and see how I like em.

Oh and thank you! You're a talented photographer yourself

I love those footprints still They really do add to the title. The depth of the water and ice and the mountains really come together here in the way the land is formed
