Description My most recent piece - pendant 'O-Torii'. I created it for the beading contest held by local beading supply store. The topic of the contest was 'My jorney' - a jorney which you dream to have one day or the one that has already happened.
I decided to tell a story about Japan. Unfortunately I have never been to this country, but it is my biggest dream to visit it one day!
And no matter how fascinating the futuristic Tokyo is, first of all I would like to visit the most picturesque and historical places, imbued with the spirit of Japan - old temples, majestic castles and beautiful parks. What is carefully guarded, loved and respected by the Japanese people. There is a list 'The three views of Japan' - three most celebrated scenic sights. In this list there is the sanctuary of Itukushima, not far from Hiroshima. It is considered to be the national treasure and is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The sanctuary is best known for its majestic 16 meter high ritual gate 'torii', which are also called 'o-torii' ('great torii'). It is a recognizable symbol of Japan and the religion of this country - Shinto. The gates are in the bay area, and during the high tide they seem to float in the sea, casting bright reflection on the water.

I decided to paint this famous landscape with beads. The pendant is embroidered with japanese and czech seed beads. I also used beautiful deep blue azurite cabochons and bullion thread.

This is so lovely! You really used the beads so well, especially creating that reflection in the water. I am beader too, so I understand the work. Congrats on the DD! I do hope you get to visit Japan, it is worth it. And I totally agree with you, I love the historical places. I was lucky to visit in 2008, spent 5 days in Kyoto and 4 days in Tokyo. I want to go back and see more of the country.

Been to Miyajima and both kayaked and walked under the o-torii. It's a beautiful place to visit. You captured it really well in pendant form! Congrats for your DD!
