Damn this is pretty awesome, I love how it appears 3D and your shading is just on point here, loving the shiny claws/hoofs cx

Aw, thank you! I don't usually use a pen to shade (I mostly use it just for lineart) but I figured I'd try it for once.

You used pen for this!?!? Damn that makes it more interesting o.o

Yes! I used to (and still do sometimes) have people asking me what I use for my traditional art and it's funny to me because they assume I use really expensive stuff but truth is I just use whatever I can get my hands on. Most of my tools are just ordinary ballpoints or cheap colour pencils I've collected over the years, but they serve me well. That's why I like the "Good art depends on the artist, not their tools" saying, because it's so true.

Honestly I though this was pencil :'D but I can see how people can think its expensive, its more about the technique which you have down and it is very true its more about your self rather than the tools, I've never been able to handle the coloured pencils well but I find my talent is with the graphic pencils and the many smudges.

I generally use pen for the lineart when I'm doing something in traditional because the colour pencil's pigment can get messed up by pencil graphite on the page. But now that I look at it, I can kinda see why you'd think it was pencil haha
Yeah, if you have a reliable technique you can fall back upon, you can make use of most tools you can find.
I was really struggling to apply colour pencils until I started using them alongside other things like pen ink and watercolour pencil especially - I don't actually use them for watercolour purposes, but they have excellent pigment that I use to bring out a stronger colour. It works very well!
But I agree with you about the graphite pencils, they can be so much fun to work with.

I hear you there, it easily smudges and even loses its colour by sticking to the damn page above it. Indeed haha
Its always fun trying new techniques or simply using different tools, alot can be done in traditional which can be hard to get in digital.
Colour pencils can be pain I must admit, they just never seem to stick to the paper, never though of using watercolour pencils though, aren't they expensive to buy? Seems you have tried and tested alot of methods.
Plus you don't really need to sharpen them cx

Right?!
Yeah, traditional just has that nice rough feel that digital just can't compete with.
Tell me about it haha. It's especially frustrating if you've been sketching and rubbing out a lot and then the pencil just sucks on the paper after it. ;-; I don't know, but the ones I have didn't cost a whole lot, and I bought them some years ago for school (even though we hadn't used them in school over these 3 or 4 years even once.) so they last quite long, provided that you're careful with them. I try loads of different things because I get bored quickly using the same methods and materials.
