Description
A male and female jaguar (Panthera onca) showing affection. Their names are Yaqui (in front) and IxChel (16th century name of a jaguar goddess in the Maya culture). They are boyfriend and girlfriend and have been successful parents 3 times.Shot through glass.

I remember the name IxChel from when we were studying Mesoamerica! In my historical fiction I am best friends with a jaguar, not named IxChel though.

Besides, I was trying to guess which one was the male and which the female. I think male is the one on our left, but heh, that's fifty-fifty

You are absolutely spot on. And since we were going to New Orleans anyway, I took advantage of the fact that they have Jaguars there. Great zoo, by the way, although you don't normally go to NOLA for the zoo. Anyway, this is one out of 20 shots or so I took of these two, and maybe, I'll post one more.

Yeah, I was there for more than an hour, and they were very affectionate with each other, and it was a pleasure to watch. I almost forgot about the photography, and the glass made it difficult to get decent shots. Anyway, I'd love to go back there, but since its 600 miles away, it won't be so soon.
