awesome! the shading and reflexes are perfect, the attention to even small details is awesome. it's siply a badass drawning.
though i'm not a very big fan of the F-35. it failed performance tests, so they were made easier. WTF?
though it is stealth, as someone already said here stealth is freaking overrated. its survivability was proven lower than the F-16 or the F/A-18E because it is somewhat weak. it is an innefective, expensive fighter, expensive to develop, manufacture, maintain and to operate.
all these things poured into the helmet only cause the pilot to need adittional training and have to cope with more information and possibly more problems. the overall design and idea of the plane is a fail.
because, after all, even if the plane is stealth if you want to have a gun you need a gun pod in the B and C versions IIRC. having an external pod reduces stealth and increases drag. and hasn't the USAF and USN learned with the vietnam war? you just need a gun, otherwise you lose serious dogfighting capability.
having stealth capabilities means nothing if the gun on that Su-35 Flanker can see the F-35 missiles through infrared sensors, dodge them with countermeasures until the F-35 gets close, and when it gets close the Su-35 can (pardon me for the word i'll use here) rape it with superior maneuverability, firepower and survivability. besides, the F-35 has nothing to hide that big jet engine nozzle, making it prone to being detected and tracked by the Su-35's FLIR alone. the pilot can even turn off the radar and just let the FLIR locate the F-35, then lock on with IR seeking missiles. if it fails, switch to the powerful gins and you have a F-35 turned into swiss cheese.
the Sukhoi has thrust-vectoring engine nozzles, a FLIR system, canards, good countermeasure system, incorporated radio jamming pods on the wingtips (if i remember correctly), powerful arrmament, multimission capability AND, though it is not stealth, its lines make it harder to dected through radar than your average fighter. combine this all and you have almost what the US is looking for, why not just take these ideas?
seeing all this F-35 bullshit almost makes me happy that the brazilian air force still uses F-5Es as the main (and now only, sadly the Mirages were retired) fighter jet. it may be old shit, but at least it's cheaper than dirt. even with all the useless "upgrades" being made by EMBRAER, it is still much cheaper than any F-35. though it disappoints me that due to political (and bribery) reasons the brazilian government hasn't just bought a new mainline plane instead. currently being considered (and by currently i mean since the 2005's and counting) are the Gripen, Rafale and F/A-18E super hornet. due to bribery and corruption it will probably never be concluded, much sadly.

As much as I despise the F-35, which I do with a passion, I've gotta add a counter-point to the weight of the SU-35 claims. We probably would have an F-35 going up with some F-22s or some other fighter....and those could more-successfully engage the SU-35. Now the SU-35....check into how many Russia actually has.

caiobrazil In reply to litfuse55 [2013-09-14 01:58:22 +0000 UTC]
yup, i know that russia doesn't actually have much Su-35s, including because they aren't that cheap. the F-22, though it has good stealth capabilities, one might argue that the Sukhoi pilot could do the same, using the FLIR to detect and the countermeasures to evade missiles until it came up close and personal, where the Sukhoi would excel over the F-22 with superiorΒ maneuverability. however, if you assume a long/mid-range onl scenario, the F-22 would probably win. it would also be harder for the Sukhoi pilot to get a good wiew with the FLIR because the nozzles of the F-22 kinda shield the heat and protect it from FLIRs and other IR sensors. it isn't magic though, it only reduces the chances of such.
but yeah, look at the damned cost of the F-22. then look at the cost of the development of the F-35. crap, the Army is staying with the M-4 carbine 'til hell freezes over; why not do the same with the F-35 and just update current plateforms?
seriously, i think this is more of a political and corporational move than anything else.

Maybe....but you're thinking of 1 on 1 combat. I doubt it'd be like that. And countermeasures are only good to an extent, they aren't the end-all solution.Β
The F-22 is quite maneuverable, and might not be so easy to take down in close range. However, at long ranges, the AIM-120 isn't known for an impressive Kill-Probability. Not even at medium ranges. It's not the best weapon. The AIM-9X would have a better chance at downing the Super-Flanker.
I frigging hate everything about the F-35

Nice helmet, it's pretty awesome.
Isn't the reason for the bug helmet the wider line of sight it gives?

NDTwoFives In reply to SirRinge [2013-09-13 13:39:30 +0000 UTC]
Well, there is a giant lift-fan installed in the central line of the fuselage, meant for VSTOL take-offs, that thing blocks a large portion of your rear visibility. That's why this helmet was designed, and no, it's not for a wider field of view for the naked eye, it has panoramic camera systems connected to the airframe that shows a 360 degrees view of everything going around you hehe.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Chinese clone performs much better. The F-35 is inferior to the fighters it's meant to replace as well as the fighters it's meant to take on. I, personally, am a fan of the Eurocanard family (Gripen, Typhoon, and Rafale).

The AR system is legit. The F-35... it's rather expensive for a overall mediocre fighter jet.
Give me a Eurofighter Typhoon or the latest F-18. Or a Flanker.
Stealth is a bit overrated.

NDTwoFives In reply to HoshikoSoyokaze [2013-09-13 00:03:59 +0000 UTC]
Ain't that the truth? Stealth isn't even a priority if you are waging war against a third world country's military~
The program gets expensive due to every feature the designers try to jam into it, the flight helmet you see here was created to counter a flaw caused by poor rear visibility, it incorporates a panoramic camera system and other funky gadgets.....Moaaar moneeeeh poured into the F-35 program!

HoshikoSoyokaze In reply to NDTwoFives [2013-09-13 19:22:25 +0000 UTC]
Well the rear-view is an issue, but also the AR system adds more situational awareness overall. Not to mention it take full advantage of networking between aircraft in a squadron. AR is a good idea, the Eurofighter Typhoon is getting that rolled out, and AR is seemingly what really takes a jet from 4th generation to 5th generation more than any fancy stealth faceting.
The Eurofighter 2025 upgrade will wreck any stealth 5th Gen fighter's day. As a 4.5 gen.
