Description Artabatitae are a group of people from a "purely imaginary" part of Africa, described by Pliny the Elder, "who have four legs and rove about like wild animals." I interpreted this as simply being built for walking on all fours, and it makes me wonder just how different life would be if one was part of an entire culture of obligate quadrupeds. Would you use your mouth more to hold and handle things, like this gentleman is doing? How different would clothing have to be? Would you be able to put on a shirt and pants the way you would now? I drew this man's clothes with pockets on the sides, facing up, but I really wasn't sure where to put them; the pit-pocket was probably a bad choice. I drew him as still having hands, just padded ape-like ones used for both walking and holding things, but would he also need hand-shoes for walking outside, or some kind of gloves? I don't know. Anyone have any opinions they would like to share?
