I think it's mostly because Tsenacommacah doesn't sounded well enought to make a national anthem...
And the Tsenacommacahians now are called Americans......the vocabulary took some liberties.

Ehhh but "Roma" does not necessarily refer to the city of Rome...Half of Europe has roots (cultural or linguistic) in the former Roman Empire and the whole byzantine Empire saw themselves as being "Romaoui" or Romans, even the Muslims and Turks took this name for their enemies. Heck there still is a whole country called Romania where Romanians live... and do not forget Sinti and Roma, we will forgo the more racist and not quite so polite names given to them... Roma for a vegetable says not much about its origin.

Humon did India, he's in the secret comic (Brazil is also in it): [link]
And here's a native American flag, but for all, not just ones in USA [link] (note: not all native Americans have the USA flag in common, most live outside the USA).

Oh.
Well, still, you can use the flag (minus the symbol in the middle). But you don't have to, because "Tsenacommacah" looks fine as she is.

It makes you think.
How did we get 'Hungary' from 'Magyarország'?
And 'Finland' from 'Suomi'?
And 'Germany' from 'Deutschland'?
And 'Spain' from 'España'?
The list continues.

Shikku27316 In reply to skies-of-amaranth [2013-04-25 20:44:55 +0000 UTC]
Actually, most of these names aren't related.
"Magyarország" is how Hungary is called in Hungarian, but most European languages call it something that sounds like "Hungary". It doesn't come from the same word. Magyarország refers to the Magyars, or Hungarians. Hungary is derived from the "On-ogur", a tribe of Mongolians who went to Hungary.
Finland is actually from Swedish, and it means "fen land". Suomi is unrelated as well.
Germany comes from the Latin name for the land that comprises Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Austria (or, at least the parts that weren't conquered by Rome). The name was Germania. Deutschland comes from what the Germans called themselves (Deutsch, which means "people"), plus land.
Spain actually does come from España. Just remove the E, the a, and the ~ on the n, then add i after the remaining a. That's what happened.
Sorry, I just felt like answering this.

You're welcome! I'm sorry, I just have an interest in this, so I decided to answer your question. Some of them used to bother me too, for example, Suomi. But, now, it makes sense.

That's different than what they taught me in my schools, that Amerigo Vespucci was an explorer, tho not a very famous one today. Every site I find from googling says that it was named by Germans after an Italian.

Everything I know about the names I pretty much got from wikipedia, I didn't understand the difference between "Ellada" and "Hellas" for Greece, is it a dialect thing? But "Greece"? haha, why use a word that sounds like an oily substance?
