Description The flag for the Union of Svalbard and Jan Mayen, a constituent country of the European Federation. The capital is Longyearbyen and the official languages are Norwegian and Russian, beside Esperanto, the federal language.

The flag was inspired by one of the proposed Nordic cross flags for Estonia, though arranged in a pattern more similar to the flag of Norway. The white represents the icy seas the surround Svalbard, while white represents the snow and black stands for the darkness and long nights of the far north.

How would an independent Svalbard work? it's mostly uninhabitable land, so please explain yourself.

I figured it more as an autonomous state within a larger union, rather than as an independent state. There are four towns on it: Ny-Γ…lesund, Longyearbyen, Pyramiden and Barentsburg.

Nice, it happens to looks almost exactly like the flag I made for an autonomous German Region in Patagonia.

Thanks! And yeah, it really does! o.o

Though I assure, it's only a coincidence.
