Description
Westeros:
The North:
Most of the North is dominated by House Stark like in OTL, but the Glovers, Boltons, Umbers, Ryders, and several other minor Houses still rule their own kingdoms, some of which extend no further than the walls of their castles.
As they were in OTL, the Boltons are the greatest power in the north other than the Starks, although recently the Red Kings have been forced to rule from a castle near the Grey Cliffs, as the Dreadfort is considered to be too close to the border with Winterfell.
Despite their recent victories against House Bolton, House Ryder and the clans of the Wolfswood/Deepwood/Northwood, they have also suffered losses, with the northern shore of the Bite falling under the control of the Belmores.
The Western coast of the North is, not unlike the western coast of the South, held by the Ironborn, but with each passing year the Ironborn grip on these lands weakens, and now some of the remaining mainlander vassals and smallfolk have risen up against the Iron King
The Riverlands:
The Riverlands are, and have always been, one of the most contested regions on the continent, and currently several Kings claim rule over it
The First is Brynden III of House Fisher, who once ruled a mighty kingdom stretching from the Neck to the God's Eye, but that all ended when a group of Valyrians arrived in Westeros to build a colony.
In terms of military strength the Freehold of Eronyis is one of the most powerful nations in Westeros, thanks to their Valyrian Legions and several Dragonriders. Eronyis was founded several decades ago by a group of ambitious dragonlords from Valyria, which isn't nearly as large as in OTL, who came to Westeros and built a large city on the eastern shore of the Gods Eye. Despite the name, the government of Eronyis differs from Valyria. Eronyis has only 5 families ruling over it, and only 3 of those families have dragons. Eronyis has also taken a large part of the northern Stormlands.
House Blackwood and Bracken, former vassals of House Fisher, both claim the title of River King, constantly going to war with eachother.
The Mountains and Vale:
The Mountains of the Moon have been united into a confederacy of lords and kings who elect a High King from amongst themselves. For the past three generations the title of High King has been held by House Belmore, who have expanded the kingdom, taking land from the Royce-Waynwoods and the Starks, and conquering the Three Sisters.
House Royce-Waynwood was founded when Nestor I Royce of Runestone inherited the Kingdom of Ironoaks from his uncle Benedict Waynwood, uniting the two largest kingdoms in the Vale. Nestor and his descendants slowly conquered the rest of the Vale, defeating House Redfort, House Hunter, House Upcliff, and many other minor Kingdoms. The capital of the Kingdoms has switched between Ironoaks and Runestone several times, and currently King Benedict III rules from Ironoaks because Runestone has been taken by King Arthur Shett of Gulltown, who has converted to the Faith of the Seven, a religion mainly practiced in Essos.
The Iron Islands:
The Iron Islands are feared across the Western parts of the continent, and during the Kingsmoot where he was elected Iron King after his grandfather Durwalds death, Torryg Goodbrother swore that when his reign ended, that fear would have spread to the eastern coasts as well, but currently he is too busy trying to control the western coast, with rebels rising up everywhere.
Meanwhile, his brother Greydon, who rules a part of the western coast which was once a part of the Reach, has taken the mouth of the Mander while the Gardeners and Florent were quarrelling over, which might lead to the Florents and Gardeners uniting to throw the Ironborn back into the Sunset Sea.
The Westerlands:
House Lannister, which rules all of the West in OTL, lost Casterly Rock several years ago when Urrathon Goodbrother invaded the Kingdoms of the Westerlands. The scattered remains of the Lannister Kingdom was absorbed into the Kingdom of the Westerhills.
House Crakehall controls one the few mainlander kingdoms on the Western coast, thanks to Lyonel I's victory over the Ironborn during Urrathons invasion.
The Hills of the West are almost entirely controlled by House Moreland, who were spared from the Ironborn invasions due to the fact that the Ironborn have never been successful in controlling castles and towns that were too far inland.
Arthur Moreland has given Corlos Lannister permission to raise a host of exiles and sellswords to reclaim the Rock from the Ironborn, and in return Corlos will swear fealty to House Moreland and be named lord of Casterly Rock.
The Reach:
House Gardener rules most of the Reach from Highgarden, a kingdom that stretches from the Blackwater river in the north to the mouth of the Mander in the south.
Highgarden also claims rulership over the lands currently held by House Florent, stating that as the senior line descended from Garth Greenhair the Gardeners are superior to the Florents. The Florents deny this, saying that Florys the Fox had no connection to Garth.
House Hightower rules Oldtown, desperately trying to fend of Daynes, Gardeners and Florents, while also preventing the Arbor from declaring independence
The Stormlands:
House Durrandon holds undisputed rule over the Stormlands, controlling everything except the northern regions, and their territory extends into the Red Mountains.
The Durrandons have held the title of Storm King of the Red Mountains since Qarlton II took the Boneway and died during his conquest of the Wide Way, which was finished by his son Durran XXXI, the father of the current Storm King Durran XXXII.
Dorne:
Western Dorne is ruled by the Daynes of Starfall, who have been fighting the Hightowers over the control of the western foothills of the Red Mountains for generations. The current king of the Torrentine, Archibald III, is the nephew of the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, Allister Dayne "the Sword of the Morning".
Central Dorne is jointly ruled by Ellard Yronwood and Lucia Dryland, whose marriage created a union between their two kingdoms.
The lands around the Greenblood are split into several small kingdoms, the greatest of which are the Gargalens, Brownhills and Briars.
House Martell, former Andal adventurers who hold the Stepstones also control the mouth of the Greenblood and its surrounding lands.
Essos:
Andalos:
After the destruction of Valyria's capital by the Fourteen Fires, the Andal Empire is the most powerful nation in Essos.
Unlike the other Andal Kingdoms, which were founded by ambitious adventurers and second sons, the Empire was founded by the direct descendants of Hugor of the Hill, who was crowned by the Father himself.
The Empire has spread the Faith of the Seven across western Essos, from Lorad to Myr, and across the sea to Gulltown and the eastern shores of Dorne.
The Kingdom of Norvos was founded by Armistead Morring, who drove out the Hairy Men and established towns and castles across the hills.
Lower Andalos and Myr have similar origins, being founded by Perceon Crayle and Argos Esterling respectively.
The Stepstones is the youngest of the Andal Kingdoms being founded by Marence Martell, father of Edgar Martell, current King of the Stepstones. Marence united the Stepstones and took a small part of southwestern Essos, his son Edgar has expanded his eastern holdings, and he has conquered the tip of the Dornish peninsula.
The Rhoyne:
The majority of the Rhoynish city-states have been united into a loose confederacy ruled by a council of Princes and Mayors in Ny Sar. The confederacy was formed after the Rhoynar saw how easily Volantis, a Valyrian colony, managed to defeat the divided states of the Lower Rhoyne.
The largest principality not to answer to the authority of the Council of Ny Sar is Darqash, which has resisted multiple attempts by the council to incorporate it into the confederacy.
Volantis broke away from Valyria after the Fourteen Fires destroyed the capital of the Freehold, but unlike the Ghiscari cities and colonies, who are ready to band together when the Valyrians recover and try to reclaim their lost lands, Volantis stands alone, with few allies and many enemies.
The Heel of Essos:
The Heel of Essos is divided into dozens of Kingdoms and City-States, with twice as many cultures and religions, all constantly at each other's throats.
There have been several attempts to unite the Heel across history, some succeeded, but only for a time.
The only city of note on the Heel is Lys, which is ruled by a council of priest dedicated to the Weeping Lady, a goddess of Love, Life and Death.
Sarnor:
The Kingdom of Sarnor has been greatly weakened by Dothraki raids and Conquests in the east. The great city of Sarnath, once the seat of the High King of Sarnor, is now a ruin. The current High King rules from Mardosh, but the Kings of Sarys, Saath, Omber and several minor Kingdoms do not acknowledge this High King.
