Anyways, MediBang Paint, version 9.0 was just out a few days ago, and I was really excited to try out the new 'Halftone Layer' feature (This layer only allows you to paint basic screentones from the 'Tile' section of the Material docker).
Anyway, I really like how easy it is to use (not only that it cuts the time to place screentones and shading with screentone to half (and more) the length), for my line art style it's much more easier to colour (not to mention it looks prettier!)
However, you can't have colour directly in the Halftone Layer (mandatory, it's an 8-bit (greyscale layer, if convert it to a Colour Layer you'll lost the screentone texture).
So the reason why I can apply colour to my drawing is because (This will be more specific in the speedpaint):
1. I create a new Colour Layer above the Halftone Layer I just created (Make sure that you filled that layer with desired screentone)
2. I apply Clipping to the Colour Layer
3. Use the Colour Layer that you apply Clipping to and colour right on the place that has been filled in the Halftone layer)...and there you go! Instant coloured dots!

I really like semi-realism! It doesn't just make chracters look a bit better, characters having different faces make them really unique! I'll be using this style from now on >w<
Medibang has new type of layer that allows you to 'paint' manga tones now! This program just gets better everyday!
There's no demonstration of it on the website, but it's much better to experience it all by your own!

It opens a lot more options for diversity in faces, but cartoon styles can be really limiting D: I'm still stuck there

Yeah, and I choose not to stick with that style, since I'm studying realism plus I'm lazy with hairstyles >u>
And it's okay! It's not too hard to switch to a different style- you just need a lot of experimentation. Take this tutorial as a resource for drawing faces! I find it very useful!
