Description OMG I am so exhausted I worked on this all day I think I'm blind lol This was way more work than I expected. Well anyways, I hope this is useful for GIMP users its not a very user friendly program and at first it is kind of overwhelming. If you have ANY questions at all please ask meh thats what em here for! XD lol And if you use this show me whatcha come up with! I would love to see it! Phew I added helpful hints to the side panels. Like about what the tools look like and how to do brush strokes. For some reason its kinda pixely towards the end stupid GIF format lol oh and CLICK DOWNLOAD TO VIEW IT ahem

EDIT: Wow I've improved a lot since i did this sucka lol I'll have to make another one pretty soon but yeah this skill still works i just changed it up a bit now

Heres my newest one it may be photoshop but it has the SAME exact tools and stuff cept maybe a few more right after i switched from GIMP to PS i had no problems makin my pics the same way [link]

Cool, i'm doing an art trade with someone on my other account , and I have to draw a wolf! I might try this out on the art trade, if you'd like i'll link it to you and maybe you could give me some tips on how to improve? If you can, that'd be great, if you can't, i'd still like you to see it ^^

suzume-chann [2008-03-29 03:02:00 +0000 UTC]

Hey! I have a question... Lets say i have a transparent canvas, and i want to make one of those icons, so i draw a cat. I want the cats ears to move, and the facial expression to change. But if i get a new layer, that one will be transparent as well. When i move the position o the cats ears on the second layer, it shows up on my "image" So, what do i do?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

neecolette In reply to suzume-chann [2008-03-29 04:37:14 +0000 UTC]

Um well when you're makin one of those you can make the frames seperate transparent layers and then save it as a gif animation and it will play it back in whatever order you have the layers. So put the first frame of the cat on a layer then make another transparent layer on top of that like you were with the next frame and so on I think you're doing it right. Go to Filters>animation> playback and it will let you see if it's turning out the way you want haha i hope i answered ur question anyways That's how i made mine

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

suzume-chann In reply to neecolette [2008-03-29 15:31:24 +0000 UTC]

Well you kinda answers it... Im saying how would i make it an animation because i want it transparent, but i want the ears to move and in order for me to do that, I have to move the ears position. But when i do that, (this is transparent by the way) The ear in the diff position shows up on that final image... If you get what i mean...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

neecolette In reply to suzume-chann [2008-03-29 17:43:38 +0000 UTC]

Ok uhhh when you save it make it a gif file so put name.gif then it should ask if you want to save it as an animation and you do so click that bubble then it will ask how fast you want the animation and you can just leave the default setting if you want and that should do it haha i think thats wat ya mean anyways *not slow* haha

eternal-song [2007-12-03 04:12:11 +0000 UTC]

wow this is so helpful. a few questions, though.
1) should i use a different layer for the grass, and for the sky, and for the wolf?
2) for shading, wouldn't it be easier to use the burn and dodge tool?

this is so awesome.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

neecolette In reply to eternal-song [2007-12-03 04:44:57 +0000 UTC]

hehe yeah back when i made this i didn't use layers much but NOW i suggest you make a white background for sky a transparent layer on top of that for grass and then another transparent layer on top of that for the wolf and i never use that tool so i dunno bout that lolz

O:
You.
Are.
Amazing.

I recently downloaded GIMP since it's better than MS Paint. Or so I thought. GIMP is really overwhelming and I had no idea where to start doing digital art. Your tutorial helped a lot and I think I can take a stab at doing some digital art now.

Thank you so much! <33
