Description So I am not so happy with the end results here, rushed on it because I need to work on my own comic and I had this laying around.  I like the concept though.  It would work for the Ultimate universe or maybe for a reboot of the character the way the Spider-Man comics tried with the Vulture and with Rhino.  This guy is a former KGB spy who dedicated every part of his life to them.  He wiped out all his records, legally deleted his name, photos, everything, burned off his finger prints, surgically altered his face, removing ears, nose, lips, hair, eyelids, bleached his skin, all to allow for him to disguise himself better for his agency, and after all he gave to them he was burned.  Fired, and left for dead in their eyes.  And any record of him as an agent, his missions, all destroyed, and disavowed.  So he became a spy, killer, mercenary for hire.  Even framing others for crimes to get them imprisoned for his clients.  He is an expert at hand to hand fighting and weapons.  When not on a job he wears his protective mask, sits in the dark, and practices his speech patterns for the next disguise.  I tried to make Chameleon seem more of a threat, a danger, and scary.  But I still feel a little unhappy with the end results, maybe its too dark.

If Chameleon was made as a villain instead of that strange idea from FFH, maybe he is an experiment of Hydra (covered inside S.H.I.E.L.D) who was a volunteer of experiments based on the Photostatic Veil, maybe using it to cover his skin or fuse it with the DNA

I love the idea of his origins coming from the photostatic veil.

I like the basic design and idea, but I think ex-KGB operatives are a bit hard to work with twenty-plus years after the end of the Soviet Union.

Doesn't necissarily have to be an ex-KGB.  Could be whatever, maybe part of some Russian Hydra/AIM type terrorist group that he was a covert spy for.  Maybe even a former SHIELD agent based in Russia.  But also, how does Marvel do it for Black Widow?  Because that could help figure it out too.

Well, Marvel Comics proper leaves it as KGB. After all, while Marvel doesn't suffer the endless reboots DC does, they do suffer from storylines they haven't rebooted that make no sense given how old their characters are supposed to be. The multiple Soviet characters in Iron Man's timeline are probably the strongest examples of this.

When they updated several Spider-Man foes (before killing off most of them or bringing back the originals) they rebooted their origins too.  They could have done that for Chameleon as well.

When was this?

I think it was Dan Slott's Spider-Man: Gauntlet.  Where after Brand New Day his enemies started flooding out.  Electro, Rhino, Chameleon, Mysterio I think, a new female Kraven, etc.  Sort of reestablishing his rouges gallery.  the new Vulture was this mutant I think with Blade 2 vampire jaws that spit acid and wore red.  Rhino was now this Russian mob enforcer type who was much smarter than the previous, Kraven was the daughter of the original, Electro had a face tattoo, Chameleon would make molds of people's face for masks and then kill them.

So a very soft reboot then. I dunno, Vulture sounds like he's trying too hard.

The brought back the original Tombs old man one.  He ran a nightclub and used kids as his henchmen.  Then Superior Spider-Man got mad and nearly killed him.

After he was beaten up, he did come back and was a member of the Superior Six.
Electro has become messed up because Doc Ock/Superior Spider-Man had genetically tampered with him.
So maybe Vulture will return with more interesting concepts too.

Wow, that's kinda odd to look at. Oh, well, at least it's a point of stability for these guys to jump off of.

Yeah.  After that Peter returned and Electro hated him because he acted as Mad Scientist. Made his powers out of control.  Also Black Cat hates Peter now too.

Which works with Electro but is kinda stupid with Black Cat.

She thought they were friends, lovers, then he punches her in the face and reveals her identity to the world and throws her in jail where she is targeted until she breaks out.  I can sort of see it.  But he could tell her the truth and probably would stop her.

I heard he already told her the truth and she didn't care.

I don't think he ever got her to actually listen or let him finish.  If he could handcuff her to a chair and talk (maybe a whole issue) explaining things she would understand maybe a little.  Still be mad but not murderous.  I think.

Maybe this is an attempt to make her less like Catwoman or something.  I trust Dan Slott with Spider-Man.

That probably is it. It also seems to be a part of a trend of femme fatales who have gone full blown evil. You know, like how Batman has no interest in Talia anymore and Stark hasn't seen Madame Masque in ages?

I like Madame Masque as Hawkeye/Kate Bishop's enemy.

I've read those issues. I haven't been that interested by that element, but I did love the way they met.

I think its an interesting idea for why Madame Mask hates her.  Kate kidnapped her and impersonated her.  More interesting than the usual reasons.  Different anyway.   I always think that a series/new character could be made marketable with a great background cast including a villain or two and a setting.  I do miss her being around the Young Avengers or Hawkeye.

She still is around Hawkeye. I just read All-New Hawkeye #1 just a few days ago, and she was right there.

Still gonna miss the previous team.  But from skimming it looks great.  Noticed it no longer explains this is his life when he is not an avenger.  And he was in costume this time.

Thanks.  I came up with the idea a while ago for the Ultimate comics, but it could work for the current 616 too I guess.  I thought it would be a good motivation, he gave them his life and they threw him away.  But is it too dark and creepy?
