Summary: The Gates to Heaven are closing. In order to be able to stay with Castiel, God offers Dean an angel's Grace to become an angel himself. Dean accepts. Although Heaven with Castiel seems like Paradise, Dean starts questioning his choice and eventually commits a crime which gets him banished to Hell once again...

Painter 11. Using the Real!Pencil brush, with a technique that is like my approach to traditional colored pencils.

It was a challenge to capture the emotional tone of the scene for each of them. I didn't quite get the fullness of what I was aiming for. Cas was most difficult because of needing to balance conveying the emotion of the scene with the fact that the character is so emotionally muted. His expression is so slight and nuanced that it gets a bit lost at the smaller image size.

I also wish I'd had a little more time to polish some of the rough edges and make them more their pretty selves. I've never drawn either character before, so that was another challenge: trying to capture what makes them identifiable.

And their hair! Next time they're going to be hippies because long hair is so much easier to draw/paint than their short hair. lol

The sky was a special challenge as in the story it's described as dark blue with a golden glow. Yellow on blue is always tricky because if it blends much it can get greeny and I needed it to stay golden. Fortunately with the Real!Pencil technique blending is a little easier to control and I decided to go with a wispier and loose look.

But all in all I am happy with how it turned out, especially considering I was called in as a 'pinch-hitter' when the previous artist had to drop out so had far less time to work on it.
