Description So for quite a while now I've been working on these unique stilts for Midnight-Yamikidate 's Ren Faire costume.

I started with a rough idea of what to make thanks to some YouTube tutorials on werewolf stilts, but I modified them and created my own design. ^_^

I'm so pleased with how well they work! I'll probably post a video of them moving to my YouTube channel once I put a basic skin on them.

There are still quite a few things left to do on them, but so far they look good, work great, and are surprisingly comfortable.

If anyone is interested in buying something like this, let me know! I have no clue what I'd charge for them yet, but I do need to get at least my material cost back for them. If you are interested, send me a note. ^_^

THOSE ARE AWESOME!!! Would stilts like those work with quadsuits?

Probably not. They are designed to support your weight on your calves, with the braces helping to make it less intensive to stand with your knees bent.Β
But with a quadsuit, your weight is all distributed along your spine, so having it being pushed into two places would make it very painful to walk around it.

'painful'
I'm out! (I'll continue with what i had going before then. )

The biggest thing to remember when making a quad suit is that you have to have a TON of back support. The human body isn't meant to walk around with your lower spine bent all day. You can seriously hurt yourself and get permanent back problems if you don't support your spine correctly.

Kay now im concerned for my back.
How can I make sure I have the right ammount of back support?

This picture has a good example of how your body should be aligned for a quadsuit.Β

It's hard to make a quadsuit that isn't going to hurt you in some way. The human body just isn;t designed to walk on four limbs.

I think this looks awesome. I never even knew wolf stilts was a thing, and while i don't personaly play dress-up i think this looks really cool.

I had done some prior research on digitgrade costume legs, but I didn't like how big and bulky they made the wearer look. Plus with my boyfriend dressing up as a dragon for a renaissance fair in october, I wanted him to stand taller than everyone else to make his costume even more convincing. That lead me to stilts. And after much drafting and experimenting with small scale models, I found a design that appeared to work.

Watch out, keep making dragon things to were, like these, your gauntlets and so on...
and you shall become a dragon.Β
(sounds fun... how can I make these? :3 )Β

HA! THIS ISN'T EVEN MY FINAL FORM!

(not sure if I'll do a tutorial on these. The process was rather long, and unless I get commissioned to make another pair, I doubt I'll make one for myself anytime soon.)

I would love to see the complete costume when it is finished!Β
and then would give an arm and a leg for one of my own!Β

Nicely done!

Hmm.....will they leave a dragonic foot print on the soft ground? that would be coolΒ

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Neffertity In reply to Deaver-Mitzava [2017-08-29 18:17:05 +0000 UTC]

That's a neat idea, but I don't think I could do it as it would interfere with the balance.
Maybe.

Hmm...

Now you've got me thinking about if there's a way to make it possible. Hahaha

Isn't walking in them hard? o.o

Neffertity In reply to fredje323 [2017-08-29 18:15:51 +0000 UTC]

Not really. They do feel weird though. My brain isn't used to having slightly heavier feet. lol

I can slightly run in them though.

fredje323 In reply to Neffertity [2017-08-29 18:17:09 +0000 UTC]

nice, then they're Β kinda like high heels to walk in or more like steel tipped shoes? (in weight lol)

fredje323 In reply to Neffertity [2017-08-29 18:50:42 +0000 UTC]

really? XD

can you tell me if you'll make them able to move using strings? (like through the "hand" of the wing?)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Neffertity In reply to fredje323 [2017-08-29 19:03:35 +0000 UTC]

No they will operate by a hand driven mechanism and spread to 10feet in wingspan when fully open.
