After seeing your photos of Janken, it really really really makes me want to attempt to make a Fraggle as well. If I decide to challenge myself to do this during the cold season, could I possibly ask you for some pointers if I get stumped?
Hobby Lobby, I think there is one about a 25 mile drive from my house... hmmmm... would they have everything I'd need in one trip for materials? (Like fur, hair, foam, fleece, eyes, string, etc.)? Of course, I'd need to get a sewing machine too, any good models?
Probably be best if I went with the cheap fleece for experimenting/first-time sort of thing, then if I got good enough at it, get some of the Antron fleece, since it's probably a lot more expensive for the good stuff.

Get everything you need at one place? Not likely! I got the fleece at a cloth shop, the feathers at Hobby Lobby, more feathers on Amazon, the foam at a different cloth shop, the eyes and arm rods online, the fur online elsewhere, the contact cement and gasket rubber (for the mouth plate) at Home Depot, the stick-on felt for the mouth and eyelid line and the florist wire for the hands and eyes at Michael's, the batting in the arms and legs at... well, I don't remember, probably some cloth shop. You can abbreviate a lot of this, though, if you're not getting all perfectionistic. You can use cheap fake fur, buy cloth-shop fleece, make arm rods out of regular rods or even umbrella rods, use fake fur instead of feathers for hair, etc.
The main thing you need, however, is patience, and the knowledge that you're gonna make mistakes and do a lot of learning on your first puppet. Just about everything in the final puppet is a second draft; I'd make it once, see that I didn't like this or that about it, and try again until I got something I was pleased with. Make your first puppet out of cheap materials, and when you get more confident move on to the 'spensive stuff.

I love this! at first, I thought it was a replica fraggle whatnot (background fraggle). Great Job!

Thank you! I don't think there were any all-purple Fraggles in Fraggle Rock. I didn't give him an odd color scheme on purpose, it just sorta happened.

Heh, thanks. Yeah, he's my own character. I wasn't silly enough to try to make one of the established characters; if I screwed one of those up it'd look so bad. But maybe my next try will be a brand-name character.

But it'd be so awesome to make a Sidebottom replica!

wow. He's just so... real. I'd love to see him in action. It'd be hard to tell him apart from the workshop's fraggles.

Oh, if you put him next to a true Henson Fraggle you'd see lots of difference, starting with his seamed, cheap-fleece skin. But if people look at him and see a Henson-worthy Fraggle, I'm happy. (VERY happy!)

I see a very Henson-worthy Fraggle, nearly exploding with character and story!

Hours of work with foam, contact cement, fur, fleece, and feathers. Lots of false starts!

Ostrich feathers. Glad you like the hair, because you would be amazed how long it takes to sew feathers as hair! Oy.

This just makes me once again want to try getting practice building something like a MST3k bot puppet; probably a Servo, because there's a candy store near my house that sells his head.

His body is a barrel of monkeys. I think somewhere there are instruction manuals for building the bots.

Actually it's a bank, but close enough.
Oh, no doubt. Problem is, so many of Tom's parts aren't produced anymore, I think you gotta order them specially made; like the engine block. And I don't have a job yet.

I know that Crow's body started out as a Tupperware floralier, and when Tupperware stopped making those they had to... IIRC, cast and make them or something.

Speaking of hard-to-get Bot parts, where would one get Gypsy's car seat head these days? I know that somewhere in my house there's a flashlight like the one they used for here eye.

Heck if I know. I'd be surprised if that car seat was even being made now. If you find the model, I'd suggest searching Ebay for it.
