Long ago, Princess Luna became corrupted by her jealousy of her sister, Princess Celestia, her negative emotions transforming her into Nightmare Moon. 1000 years later after being banished to the Moon for the sake of Equestria, she returns to fulfill her plan to cover the world in eternal night. Luckily, Twilight Sparkle and her friends managed to defeat and exorcise Nightmare Moon with the Elements of Harmony, reverting her back into Luna. Even though Luna is welcomed back into her kingdom, she is still haunted by the memories of her past self. No matter how much Luna wants to deny it, Nightmare Moon will always be a part of her.
