Oh the irony of that situation.... This happened because he was careful and went over the hill slowly, if he had just floored it and went over that cliff fast he would have most likley landed flat on his tracks and at worst broke a shock or two.... but that, just dayam.

The designers placed the engine in the front of the Merkava so as to increase crew survivability, which is why the turret is towards the rear of the tank like that... (based on the turret, it's a Merkava Mk II)

I`m gonna have to agree with you there. See the curved armor above the treads? The Merkava is the only tank that flaunts that shape.

Also the turret is placed a bit to the rear unlike most tank which have their turret placed a bit on the front

O.o....im still in the process of trying to figure out how someone could have possibly been wreckless enough to do this to a tank...thats why its called a tank...BECAUSE ITS TOUGH TO DESTROY!!!! XD

I dunno it looks like this road was cut through a long hill. if the tank driver was to driving along the top of the hill and was to drunk to notice there was a gap ahead of him, I could see the end result looking like this.
