Description Here's another one of my old projects that I did for fashion sketching. Yay Elizabethan ruffs, boo 9-11 head tall figures and the way I was deterred from drawing proper anatomy! ;_;

This is an evening collection that I design incorporating ballet, snowflakes, Elizabethan clothing and flowers. The collection is called the 'Snow Queen' because the story by Hans Christian Anderson was adapted into a ballet which incorporates 2 roses and has snow. ^_^

Each ensemble has a name. The purple one in the front is called 'Midnight Snowfall'. The blue mermaid cut gown is 'Icy Splendor' and is dancing with the purple 'Solstice Sunrise'. The aquamarine dress is call 'Snowflake Serenade' and the finale pink piece in the back is 'Winter Rose'.

I had fun with the names.

Mediums: Marker, Color Pencil and White Gesso. Arranged and formatted in Photoshop.

This should just be common sense and courtesy - but please do not use, borrow, distribute or reproduce these designs without my distinct permission. But if you want to try to make these, I would welcome the attempt! Just let me know so I can give you the flats!

It'd be cool to see the skirt off the farthest one on the right coupled with the top half of the third from the left. With a satiny, ruffly, Elizabethan-inspired toolbelt over the skirt, and Astro Boy's boots.

This is why I am not a fashion designer.

XDDD If you have an idea from the collection, I would love to see it drawn! And you don't have to be a fashion designer to design clothes - just know how all the seams and the basic concepts of sewing! ^_^

Oh god, I don't know ANY of that stuff. I just have a hell of an overactive imagination and a very random sense of style.

i love all of these very much. just a few pointers: the midnight one is standing uber awkward, if the pose is noticable and awk, then the cothes wont be noticed. and you have too much focus on the lower part of the body. yes, i know, more work can be done with it, it makes the model skinnier and more fashionable, but its just not realistic. like teh pink poof dress, is there even a top? the bottom is beautiful..

very good job!

Thank you so much for the critique! I really appreciate it!

*laughs* Yeah, I noticed the purple's figure was awkward too late in the process. I guess I got too focused on emphasizing the dance element.

Now I intended the skirt to be the major focus of the pink poof dress (it has a red sweetheart top with an umpire waist), but you really think the bottom of the purple gown is too overwhelming? I tried to balance it out with the larger Elizabethan ruff, and I wanted to give a sleek modern look on top while the skirt turns completely avant garde. Do you have any specific suggestions on how I could fix it? If you do I would greatly appreciate that insight!

And thank you again for the critique! It is so rare to get a good one on this website that I really treasure the ones that do come my way!

aw, thats nice! ur welcome. the overall quality is amazing. but just some tweaks...nothing major. im not sure which purple gown u mean, but the midnight snowfal's bottom looks fine. ilove the motion encoorporated in ur dresses and their hair. it helps with the flow and to see the true meaning of each piece of dress. winter rose's bottom needs to be lowered. practicality is often lost on fashion designers, who yearn to make clothes beautiful (as u did) but its a non-mentioned factor on the look of the dress. sometimes when u just cant get the dress to look right, think "what would it look like on me?" or a friend or something, you know? and also, one last thing. watch where your drawing your legs. for the snowflake serenade (the leg is in the ruffle, if u draw i up, it goes outside where you drew the skirt) and for the sunrise ones(dont followe path, too big and if u drwa the rest, it wont have that small of a waist, it wont be practical/realistic), try drawing ur body first, then drawing the dress, it helps ALOT! oh and the collar on the sunrise is not that beautiful. i just noticed as i zoomed, and it loks like a starighjacket if you cover up the dress...idk, my opinion. i like all the other collars, theyr pretty! again, please dont take my critisism badly, i just want to help. and thank u for sharing this beautiful piece on deviantart!

And thank you so much for the good critique! I just do not get it as often as I would like!

And I very much agree with you on the collar of sunrise - the idea looked a lot better in my head than it does on paper.. And to be honest...I kinda designed this to be impractical for the most part. Those ruffs are horribly inconvenient to put on, and you would trip on most of those skirts! XDDD I usually think of the people who would wear them, but on this one I really wanted to play around a be a little avante garde. And I hate the figures of these girls! >.< Whenever I do draw figures that are 9 heads tall, they become so distorted so quickly

The next time rose's skirt will only probably be to the knee for a cute summer dress, sunrises will have a Edwardian style neck, and all the other dresses would be altered for more wear ability - including down playing the ruffs.

Thank you so much for your insight! Now you've totally got me thinking of redesigning this set!
