Funny thing is Spider-Man Homecoming managed to have more villains in the movie than Sony's films ever did (Vulture, 2 Shockers, The Tinkerer) and set up for future bad guys (Scorpion, The Prowler). That's 6 villains in one film, baby! And it didn't feel bogged down at all! And on top of that (SPOILERS!) they didn't kill off their lead baddie!

THAT is proof of good planning and great writing!

Good thing Spidey is back in Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Better plan: Have all the trailers advertise the appearance of the villain, and then make an entirely different villain run the show, with the advertised one shoved into the last 5 minutes.
Looking at you, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2'S RHINO.

i kinda like how Amazing Spider-Man 2 handled the multiple villains: basically, it didn't have three villains. it had one Heavy (Electro), set up a second threat (Goblin), and hinted at others (Sinister Six).

the too many villeins thing is b.s. batman begins has fake Ra's al Ghul, the mob, the scarecrow, and liam neeson Ra's al Ghul. the dark night had the mob, that broker dude, a cameo from scarecrow, the joker, and two-face. gardens of the galaxy had Ronan the Accuser ,Nebula , and Thanos. you can have multiple villans, but know what to do with them all.

I have to say, I thought ASM1 actually did a good job of getting the idea of "with great power etcetera etcetera" without actually saying the specific phrase which has now so inundated pop culture it's effectively overplayed.

Rocketfighter77 [2015-02-19 14:37:36 +0000 UTC]

You know if you count Norman Osborn, there were 6 villains in ASM2.

Electro
Green Goblin (harry)
Norman Osborn
Black Cat
Rhino
Alistair Smythe

Plus the hinted at Doc Oc and Vulture.

They should just do what The Spectacular Spider-Man did and have the movie take place after Spider-Man's been in the business for a while. His backstory could just be mentioned in very brief flashbacks or during the opening credits.

Space-Aspie [2015-02-17 23:10:06 +0000 UTC]

Things they SHOULD do: Make Donald Glover be Spider-Man. As Miles Morales.
Have Spidey be a relatively unknown hero who comes into the spotlight during Civil War, thus explaining why we haven't heard of him sooner.

Not make another villain who had a personal relationship with Peter who finds out his identity and then dies at the end.

Apperntly Sony can't get a clue, and just sell the rights back to Marvel, rather than just keep trying to get blood from a stone. I garuntee that Sony will not make 750 million world wide like they did with ASM2, and no one except the die hard Spider Man fan is going to tolerate another reboot in less than a decade. Unless Sony really has it's sights set low for the returns, they are basically cutting their nose off, just to spite their face.

Baby steps I guess. Still, I'm getting pretty sick of Spider-Man. As someone who was twelve when the first Sam Raimi film was released, I can say that I have had enough of Spider-Man to last for a very long time. If they stopped making Spider-Man films for the next twenty five years, I wouldn't miss it. It's just overexposure for me at this point, and I'd rather see Spider-Man in the M.C.U. as a cameo character, rather than another reboot that will most likely go nowhere in terms of Box Office returns. For thirteen years, I have had non stop Spider-Man. I'm just sick of it at this point. And I know you're going to mention X-Men, but First Class, was a prequel, and Days of Futrue Past was basically taking a huge well of white-out to X-3. Not to mention, that Fox didn't try to set up their own cinematic universe, with just one property. Fox is perfectly content, with just correcting mistakes, and building on the two good X-Men films. And this is the same studio, that gave Lucas all the merchandising rights to Star Wars. The poster child for incompetence, looks competent next to Sony. I don't have words, they have failed me at that last sentence.

Two reboots, in thirteen years is a luxuray we can ill afford. And again, Fox is treating X-Men with more respect and integrity. FOX!! I can't get over that. Only thing I can see that happened, is Fox cleaned house, and fired all it's incompetent  people, who then just signed on with Sony. That's the only logical explination.

Funny strip.  You draw the Avatar crew so often that I forget how good you are with super heroes.

I know I should be excited about Spidey joining the MCU but I just don't think it'll work with Sony having final creative control.  I imagine with Ferngie or however his name is spelled lays down his final script for the reboot, the Sony execs will immediately start tearing it apart and adding in useless stuff in the vain attempt to make the Spider films their won world just like they did for ASM2.

People learn from their mistakes.  Movie studios don't.  The only way I can see this working is if Marvel buys Sony's film division.  It's possible since last week they did sell off their online game division.  I can only hope.

Good question. What villain should they put into a Spider-Man movie who hasn't been used yet but would still be a villain people would love to see or have re-imagined. If they ever did do one with multiple villains, I'd like if they were already a group and you saw how they interacted, but now they have powers now and it can kinda shift their dynamics.

WDCain In reply to IronBloodAika [2015-02-17 21:51:48 +0000 UTC]

I love Kraven and his Last Hunt story.  Since Marvel admitted they would like to adapt that as a movie, I would certainly like it if they did.  I can see it now.

Kraven the Hunter is an agent of HYDRA and after losing the Winter Soldier, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch, they're desperate for a new super soldier so they have Kraven capture Spider-Man so they can brainwash him.  Fortunately for Pete, his spider sense renders him immune to their brainwashing technology so they go the old fashion route and try and break his will with torture, drugs, and when that fails, burying him in isolation to drive him insane.

Weeks pass before Captain America or Bucky breaks him out but to HYDRA'S horror, Peter did not break.  He will not break the vow he made and use his powers for wrong.  Not again.  The final battle is Peter tearing up the HYDRA base before a face off with Kraven in a booby trap filled jungle.

I think this would be a great movie to introduce a teenage Spider-Man in the MCU.  What do you think of it?

Or Kraven, if he hasn't been used. Or the Carnage-symbiote.
They could use Kingpin and the Six, I forgot the rest of the name.
