Okay, so, Inside Out. Now, I am in the group of people (whatever group that is) that is of the opinion that Pixar hasn't really been at the top of their game for the past few years (Brave, Cars 2, Monsters University). When I heard about Inside Out, I was very, very cautiously optimistic. This was the first new, traditional Pixar movie they were moving forward with since Up, and that was like half a decade ago (which is a lot considering that they basically release a new film every year). For me, Inside Out was going to be the deciding film for the future of Pixar. If this film tanked, if I didn't care for it, if critics had mixed reception of it, I was going to take that as a sign that maybe Pixar's era was over. Or at the very least that they were going to be in a prolonged recession.

Therefore, I was very, very happy when I not only found that Inside Out is a good movie, a great movie even, but that it's probably one of the best Pixar movies ever. It is, I think, the best movie I've seen in the past couple of years. Maybe even the past several years. Maybe since the last great pixar movie. I believe it's just really, really that good. The animation is great, the colors are great, the characters are entertaining and likable (Lewis Black was BORN for the role of Anger), the ideas are phenomenally creative and well-executed, the jokes are hilarious, the drama is touching, and the story is fantastic.

When I first caught wind of the film's premise--personified thoughts and feelings running a person's head--my initial reaction was "well I feel like I've definitely seen this idea before". But, my god, they do not squander ANYTHING with this premise. They got every savory morsel of an idea that they possibly could from the setup of this story. It feels like they did everything they could in this movie and did it to the very best of their ability. When it finally ended, I wanted more. Not because it felt incomplete, but because it was just so damn good that I didn't want it to end. It's not a flawless film, but the nitpicks I have with this movie are just that. Nitpicks. I can think of no huge downfalls with this film. It's just golden from start to finish. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly, highly recommend it. Personally, I think this movie blows every animated movie Pixar--hell, every animated movie DISNEY has done over the past few years completely out of the water.

And if you're still skeptical, don't take my word for it. Inside Out has got a stable 98% on Rotten Tomatoes (a total of 4 critics out of 206 gave it negative reviews). I checked, and the only Pixar films with higher ratings are the Toy Story movies and Finding Nemo. So, if you like good movies, do yourself a favor and GO SEE INSIDE OUT.
