Nadakhan tells Jay that his joking personality is just a facade. Inside he is scared. Scared of what? Lemme tell ya somethings here ho boy this is a doozy.
So y'know how everyone saw Nya as kind of below them back in season one? She didn't have powers yet, she was just the samurai, she had to work jobs to support them. She wasn't very, er, high and mighty and powerful. However, how did Jay see Nya? He saw Nya as far above himself. That means he saw himself as extremely low. Now we come to current times, where Nya is very powerful, more powerful than the others, possibly. How low must Jay see himself? Anyway, that's why I'm worried about Jay and Nya being in a relationship again - Jay, spending time with Nya a lot, letting his self-esteem drop dirt low.Β
Remember that scene in season two in The Last Hope when Nya gets captured, and they all fall into the water below? And Cole says to Lloyd "That's the way the cookie crumbles?" and Jay is about to punch in Cole's face (and not only that, he was suddenly strong enough to push him down) That, that was one of the only times Jay was so stressed that his mask fell away. He let his stress out, on Cole, revealing how he can really be, and how he may feel underneath everything.
After Zane's death, it's no doubt Jay was showing severe signs of depression. Just his expressions and the way he carried himself sold the case (and they were all depressed, not just Jay) In the dressing room scene, when Jay comes back from his job, he is physically exhausted, all beaten down from his job, from his life. Jay blamed himself for Zane's death. He rushed forward blindly trying to save him. He couldn't though, he wasn't strong enough. Now here he was blaming himself for the death of a close friend. Tired from a stressful job (side note: in one of the ninjago chapter books, it's stated that Jay's gameshow job is extremely stressful: the person before him quit because of it. Anyway, this isn't helping Jay at all of course. His mask has faded greatly.) After Lloyd talks to Jay a bit, Jay was extremely defensive until Lloyd brings up Nya. The Jay just kind of...is silent, and he sits down so blankly once Lloyd leaves, and Jay has a kind of "I could go see these people who don't care for me, or I could go home and shoot myself in the mouth." Kind of expression and stare. He eventually goes to see the others, and has become extremely defensive again.Β
Jay lets other people's words affect him greatly. It's part of his personality, and it's happened many times. What did Cole think about Jay that one time in season 4? "Least valuable ninja". Of course Cole didn't really mean this, he was just excusing in his head reasons to dislike Jay because he didn't have many. But you can't tell me that stuck with Jay forever. How about when Jay found out there were a lot of elemental masters? He looked so incredibly sad that he wasn't as special as he thought he had been. Kai even had to put his hand on Jay's shoulder 'cause he was feeling so bad.
Anyway that's just the basics!

yes actually i have read a part of it. although im really glad that he got together with nya agin because after that talk they had, where nya said she chose him when they first met, i feel like he realized that SHE put HIM on a high pedestal as well as her self, and even though she doesn't remember it (-_-) jay still does i think. and i think that now though his friends don't remember most of this crazy stuff, (or at least thats what i heard i cant find the last episode online anywhere and it hasn't aired yet here) i feel like he might begin to realize he doesn't NEED his mask, and while he may make jokes to feel better about himself, he does develop a lot! oh also, just because he saw her above him doesn't mean he thought she was below the others.

I'm sure that did help him a ton! But still, especially with (spoilers for final episode) him and Nya are the only ones who remember everything. Jays going to have some kind of dysphoria and that isn't good for him either. Not only that, I doubt Nya will really talk with him about it unless he's showing signs of feeling bad (which he doesn't) anyway, being able to remember something that everyone else says didn't happen can't be good for either of them. And Jay still idolizes Nya, and although she said some really great things to him, it's not gonna cut off depression for good. Hopefully he is on the road for recovery though.

We all, in one way or another, torment our favorite characters. I do it to my own Oc's sometimes. Does it hurt me as well as those fictional characters? In a sense, yeah. But I understand why people do it. Do I regret it? Yes (no), I do regret it (no I don't) and it makes me feel bad (eh... Debatable).Β
