how do u do that iv been trying to get my dragons to look like that on dragonadopters but i cant never get anyone to do it they seem to be ignoring me

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neoseptem In reply to MidnightPurpleDragon [2010-01-06 21:07:55 +0000 UTC]

Thank you but I don't do this work anymore, don't have this much free time...
Well, how do i do this... select every color from the original picture add some more variations of them (if you havn't enough), start pixeling your dragons.
For animating, change some aspects (like closed eye or something)
Put the discrete frames together to form the animation (dunno what programms exist to do that I only use Adobe Image Ready)
And that's all. XD

MidnightPurpleDragon In reply to Neoseptem [2010-01-07 20:01:45 +0000 UTC]

oh wow really i want to know how to do this is adobe image ready free and can u tech me how to use it cuz written instructions seem to confuse me at times

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neoseptem In reply to MidnightPurpleDragon [2010-01-07 20:50:06 +0000 UTC]

sadly, no, it is included within Photoshop
And PS isn't that cheap (more than 1000€ dunno the price in $)
luckyly I got it from a friend of mine for free but I'm sure there exists some other programms like that on the internet ^^
Hm... what should I teach? Making animated pixelwork is only like 'draw a little picture (64x64px or so), copy it on a new layer and change some things (like close the eye...) and finally combine the different frames into an animation'
that's all XD

oh cool do u think i could do that on gimp my laptop dose not have a rom drive other wise i would have it to lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neoseptem In reply to MidnightPurpleDragon [2010-01-07 21:54:48 +0000 UTC]

Dunno
I've worked with gimp for around one year but never tried making animations.
Maybe you should look for some gimp-tutorials...
Otherwise, I found a free GIF-Animation programm if it doesn't work well with gimp you can try this one [link]
They say it's for beginner and easy to use

MidnightPurpleDragon In reply to Neoseptem [2010-01-07 23:14:37 +0000 UTC]

ok im new at gimp so im trying to learn and the tutorials confuse me a lot i dont understand them they r confusing to me

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neoseptem In reply to MidnightPurpleDragon [2010-01-08 18:50:16 +0000 UTC]

Oh, okay if you're a beginner with gimp it will be not that easy to work with it
other question, have you ever worked with a paint program before gimp?
if not then it's normal having problems in the beginning you work different than using pencil and paper (e.g. you can draw on black pictures with bright colors or can correct wrong lines which can't be correct on paper anymore) if you finaly get used to it it's really cool
dunno which kind of tutorials you read but my advise for beginner they should use tutorials which explain basic aspects of using the programm e.g. how to use the different layers or where a specific tool can be found
when you understand the basics you can either read more difficult tutorials or work freelance ^^

MidnightPurpleDragon In reply to Neoseptem [2010-01-08 21:25:57 +0000 UTC]

the regular paint program that is on every comp yes i used to use it all the time

ya i found the tool to do those outlines in that pic. i have some of the things down now i read a glow line tut and i understood that for the most part there was 1 or 2 things i didnt get but pics helped with that. i just cant find the tut's to make the artwork look real

Neoseptem In reply to MidnightPurpleDragon [2010-01-11 14:50:44 +0000 UTC]

for me MS paint is no real paint programm its something else
has no layers, filters, opacity control, ...

what do you mean with 'look real'?
correct shadowing and highligting or what?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MidnightPurpleDragon In reply to Neoseptem [2010-01-11 17:24:26 +0000 UTC]

ya that's what i meant correct shadowing

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neoseptem In reply to MidnightPurpleDragon [2010-01-12 20:12:19 +0000 UTC]

okay....
but there exist many tutorials which explain ways of correct shadowing here on DA as well
they show almost the same basic concept: decide where the lightsource is placed and add shadow to places the light won't reach
surfaces illuminated by light have to be brighter of course

MidnightPurpleDragon In reply to Neoseptem [2010-01-13 01:42:51 +0000 UTC]

ya i found that i looked it up and i can some what understand it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neoseptem In reply to MidnightPurpleDragon [2010-01-14 18:28:40 +0000 UTC]

thats good ^-^
the best way to learn making realistic shadowing is by try and error, including instructions from tutorials and other illustrators ^^

MidnightPurpleDragon In reply to Neoseptem [2010-01-14 21:59:43 +0000 UTC]

ya but some of it i wont understand but i think i got the most part

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neoseptem In reply to MidnightPurpleDragon [2010-01-19 17:23:47 +0000 UTC]

im sure if ya worked with gimp for some time and know how things will work youll understand these 'for now' non-understandable tutorials too.
youre still a beginner so dont worry if ya dont understand anything in an instant

Neoseptem In reply to MidnightPurpleDragon [2010-01-24 18:51:15 +0000 UTC]

hey, thats good if you understand most of it
