My god. This is beautiful. Though the woman with the red bags may have been at the center of your composition, I see only the tall walls that stand proudly on both sides, and the light filled court yard, just a little way ahead, inside the gates. THe buildings...they tell a story, no?

Excellent shot. May I ask how you achieved such great depth to the photo? What f number did you use? A special lens? Selective blurring?

Cheers

Thank you and thank you for the fav.
This shot was more luck than skill. With very limited time I took the photo and hoped it would come out like I wanted it to and fortunately it did.
No special lenses, no funny post processing. My aperture was set to 3.5

Wow... just beautiful. I love the contrast of the woman in black with red bags compared to all the soft browns of the buildings and the streets - it makes her stand out more. Wonderful shot

What a great shot. I love the solidity of the buildings on either side, creating this huge canyon through which the woman walks. The red and gold tones are warm and rich. And how great is it that the woman has those equally balanced red bags. Great capture.

Most good street photography has elements of luck, don't you think? But you have to be ready and anticipate. That's skill. Well done.

Again, thank you.
There is a lot of luck behind street photography, especially if you have limited time and in a place you've never been, but in a funny way it has become one of my favourite genres of photography.

inessentialstuff In reply to neozombie [2008-04-02 20:50:23 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, street photography is a lot of luck (actually, so is wedding photojournalism, or any kind of photojournalism, for that matter). But if you are ready and aware, you kind of create your own luck, too. I like street photography a lot. I just haven't done much recently. I need to do more. You've inspired me.

This is fantastic, and I figured it had to be Cambridge just from the preview. I particularly like the way you 've captured the buildings on both sides of the road; the way the tiny streets wind between the old, grand colleges is one of things I love about this city and you've conveyed that mismatched scale well. The shopper with the bags is icing on the cake
