I love how smooth the colors look, do you have any advice for a newcomer? By the by, ur gallery is unique, I didn't know some of them were pokemon because of the realism :"D

Thanks!

With colour you can mostly learn from observation and experimentation; keep trying different things and finding what looks nice.
For this piece, I didn't want to spend too much time since it was more of a refined doodle; basically, after laying down flat colours I made a new layer, set it on multiply, and used a green-gray colour to shade. But, with traditional art you don't have a multiply tool, so it's good to learn how and be able to mix your own colours and shades without relying on it.

I use as many different techniques as I can!

If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask, but keep in mind that I'm far from professional.

flats + light-ish colour on multiply = quick, easy, and lazy way to bs shading!

I was going to try to reply cleverly to this, but I think I've exhausted whatever wit I may have had yesterday while trying to figure out how to measure incalculable things like Cheren's forehead and Ruby's homosexuality.

That would have been fitting, though I'm not unhappy with the name Snivy.

Well, I'm indifferent to the current name, but this might be the first Grass-type Starter I totally love.

Haha, well I suppose I could have said the same, but I remember as a child I used to love Chikorita. Now that I'm older and looking back I somehow don't see what I used to see in it. Interesting how a person's preferences can change like that. I've grown fond of more clever looking characters.

I can't believe it's been going on this long! I'd love to be able to see 1,000+ Pokemon eventually. I just turned 28, and a couple days later, I reserved yet another copy of yet another Pokemon game. And I have no intention of ever quitting~

Ah, really? I've never met an English speaker who's played for so long. I'm far younger, though I don't think I'll ever quit either. It makes me wonder when I see people give up on things they've really liked.

Really, it's the designs I look forward to most these days, especially of the characters. Though, I find fun in competitive battling too. Fun to train them.

Heh. What can I say? In some ways, I'll never grow up. I've always enjoyed "Battle & Collect" games.

I can't believe how some people slam the newest designs. And I don't mean Black & White. I mean whatever qualifies as "newest" at the moment. I guess people are just reticent to change..... damn these humans -_-

nerdjiki In reply to DexAntares [2011-01-23 06:24:30 +0000 UTC]

Oh, but do you need to "grow up" if it's something you enjoy? I try to think that most things don't have an age limitation.

I find it a little funny, personally, all the things people say about designs before they slowly familiarize themselves with 'em. Haha, it's in people's nature to reject things they're unused to, for the most part anyways. I guess some people just mentally prepare themselves for the new a bit more than others. Life wouldn't be as interesting without all the different types.

My entire life seems to follow that line of thinking. Hell, as we speak, I'm wearing Finn's Adventure Time hat. Sure it looks ridiculous, but it's so damn comfy~

Call me old-fashioned, but am I the only one who remembers when gaming was *FUN??*

nerdjiki In reply to DexAntares [2011-01-23 06:31:41 +0000 UTC]

I can't say I'm fond of hats, though I guess I'm just not used to wearing them. Far too hot for the head; regardless, Adventure Time is pretty much awesome enough for it to be worth it.

It'll always be fun if you think of it as fun. Though I guess I can't talk for everyone.

It was a birthday gift from my girlfriend XD

I strive to keep my fun fun, y'know? I play Yugioh, and I used to visit the occasional tournament to trade and maybe make friends. But man, people who play games like this are vicious, cutthroat, nasty little asswipes who take every opportunity to insult anybody who isn't... well, themselves. It's really disgusting, makes it hard to enjoy stuff like this...

nerdjiki In reply to DexAntares [2011-01-23 06:54:41 +0000 UTC]

She has good taste, haha.

I see what you mean. Perhaps it's the raised stakes. With all these large organized tournaments, people can start getting a lot nastier at each other than with small community events where they all know each other. Depends on the person, again. Psychology and whatnot. Then again, people also have a tendency to idealize their childhood; I try to keep that in mind.

If you aren't enjoying yourself, it's probably best to find the crowd you can enjoy yourself with, whether that constitutes nobody at all or not. That's the thing though, stay in the same small circle, or expand? Something inside me prefers the latter, yet always find myself doing the former. That is, I'm far too shy and cowardly to reach out to people. It's either my own expectations playing against me or fear of disappointment. Something common like that.

Gesundheit. I'm assuming you didn't just sneeze, but a toast to your health is probably appropriate, and if not then simply "get well soon" should suffice.

So long.
