Description Unidentified shield bug on unidentified wild grass. For me Hemipterans are to insects what alcelaphine antelopes are to living mammals. and to think that not long ago I was convinced they are just kind of beetles

Hi there, this is a great shot!  These are cool-looking bugs ... I don't know them at all well but we do have a great diversity of bug species here in South Africa.

Thank you for the praise. Seems to me your African bugs are probably larger in general but not necessarily more beautiful than ours. I will dearly miss them in forthcoming winter

Terrific shot! It's a gorgeous beetle, so camouflaged but also so golden and special-looking. Looks like someone folded it into existence. And it seems to have an expression on  its face: "Hi, I'm me!"

Going to collect this one.
