Description Geological reserve Kadzielnia, Kielce, Poland.
'The sequence of upper Devonian carbonate rocks are outcropped in the abandoned quarry. The frasnian massive biohermal limestones are overlain by the fammenian limestone-marl series bearing numerous groups of fossils - invertebrates and fishes. (...) The extensive karstification during the Cenozoic produced vast paleo-sinkholes and systems of underground conduits currently partially accessible as caves' - from the description on information board.
I must admit I usually hate the sky like this but here it seems almost acceptable giving me the feeling of being in the same place when todays rocks were still living multicolored coral reef growing under hot Devonian sun. Besides it's rather iconic place for Polish geology.

Very interesting! In Central New York State (where I got my Bachelor's degree), there are a lot of similar Fransian limestones. Funny to think that both New York and Poland were tropical in the Devonian. :]

Glad you find it noteworthy The location is placed in the middle of old paleozoic mountain range full of geological and paleontological wonders, oldest known footprints of first land animals including.

Sorry, I should say 'first land vertebrates' or tetrapods not animals in general

It's a photo that inspires ideas of strange windswept lonely places and the comment about castles from another poster. I begin to see birds circling the stones and the stones growing to spires. Lovely picture, anyway. Nature is very inspirational when light and shadow come together to create a mood.
