This pic is better titled, "In which NR relearns colored pencils". I discovered how much I truly suck at them. Also, not having a pencil sharpener really cuts down on burnishing. Burnishing is almost impossible with a dull pencil.Anyway. Prismacolor on sketch paper. This is a scene from a story that my husband and I are writing.

Honestly, it's not terrible NR, your forground is fine with the detail.. it's just the atmospheric perspective that needs to be picked up, and that'd be all I think.
But the contrasting colors of the dragon and the snow are appealing ^^

Hmm.. I see Charr (2 r's? Or 1?), Dusk, and... those ears are too big to be an elf's... She's either another kitsune, or a catgirl, or...? And then the griffin. Gah, you've got my top three right here: kitsune, dragon, and griffin. All you need now is a phoenix and I'm sold!

ooo very detailed! even with dull pencils it still looks great!
I always have my grandpa's ever-handy titanium blade pencil sharpener from the 60's.....it was in the army storage....still works 40 years later.

Wow, no pencil sharpener? A good alternative is taking a knife to it, just be careful not to slice your finger off.

A rule of thumb for mixing colors is to only use two of the primaries. As soon as you add the third, you get mud. So you can add yellow, red and orange all together, but be careful with the blue. Or go purple-red-blue, but be careful with the yellow.

Ah, maybe this would be my problem then. When I actually USE colored pencils, I don't think I put all that much thought into my colors. Or I improvise to get a shade that I don't have...which never works out well. I'm great at getting a nice puke-green though... XD

The coloring would be nothing but even greater, as you said, if they were sharpened. But even still it's awesome. You have such a great technique. You make the dull pencils work to it's best. I'd like to see anyone else do this kind of work with dull pencils.

Hm, coloring looks good, but i'm curious...what happened to the griff's front left leg? it looks like the lower half is missing. o.O;;;

Interesting griffin design!I love the feathers on the tail...and the fact that you used a snow leopard instead of a lion. Nice touch. ^^
