Description Part 2

Right, so I've gotten a few people asking about how I draw so I thought I'd share some of my latest sketch pages. I drift over to PoseManiacs often and if you haven't already, I highly encourage using the 30 Second Drawing feature. This is AMAZING to practice anatomy and gesture in one go and I love warming up with a few of these.

I left this as is so that you all can see the sketch-marks and prelim lines. Personally, I feel we can get a better feel for other people's styles by looking at sketches and roughs. TO me, they have more character and grant us an inside look at how the artist's pencil moves.

I guess, if there's anything to share about my style it's that I rarely--if EVER--use a circle for the head. Often enough, I usually use a round-ish rectangle and cross-hairs for any face I draw.

After that, It's a matter of making an "I" for the shoulders, body, and hips. When I make that "I" however, it's rather curvy. If you look up pictures of our spine we as humans don't have a rigid back. It curves and is capable of bending in a lot of different ways. I avoid straight lines like the plague because it feels limiting. No one is stick straight. We have muscle and that gives us curves along with whatever joints and hinges we have that makes us flexible.

Arms are pretty easy and I enjoy drawing the muscles defining the inside of the elbow, bicep, and shoulder.

Legs... are another story. So are hips. I'm ashamed to admit that these two are my greatest weakness. Luckily, these practices have helped me exponentially and I'm beginning to understand them more. Maybe once I have more practice under my belt, I can expand on this feature more later.

It's wonderful to see the way you draw figures - you've got some useful techniques that a lot of people would benifit from ((mysef included)).

*prances over to PoseManiacs*

I must admit, I lol'd at the chick with the GINORMOUS ass. xDDD

But no, seriously, that's great. I can't do those 30sec sketches because I'm too detail oriented and it would drive me crazy every time it changed to another pose. That is also why my art takes ages to surface to the public... u___u;

And I also don't draw circles for heads, though I love your "block heads" better. xD

*gets pinched by Spock*

It was a valuable life experience! I made great friends and I got to live in one of the most beautiful (and clean) places ever for a whole two weeks! While it's true that I'm often short on cash (more often than I'd like), this was much more enjoyable than working for money; what I earned is more valuable.

I love sketches.~

It's also very interesting about how you draw the heads. Perhaps I should try that sometime. C:

Cool!

lol, it's a funky little habit I have no idea where I picked up from... Usually all the faces I draw revert to regular shape though. I think only the mens' squarer jaws stick with it to be honest. :>
