Description (NOTE: My portrayal of people suffering from psychopathy and dissociative personality disorder is all but accurate. If you care about social justice and that sort of thing, you probably shouldn't even bother to read. I will have to seriously work on this material before I post the whole story)

Twilight Sparkle was shaking her head.

"Doctor, I know Pinkie Pie. She may be a little strange- or a lot- but I assure you, she is a good pony."

A tiny voice at the back of her head objected. Is she really? How well do you actually know her?

"Psychopathology is a mental condition, Miss Sparkle. It's the pathological lack of empathy."

"That's just it... Doctor, if you knew Pinkie, you could tell..."

"Miss Sparkle, I have known Pinkemina her entire life. She has been under observation from the time she was a little filly, when she was first showing the... symptoms.“

He walked to his desk and opened a folder.

“Let me tell you her story. As early as Kindergarten, Pinkemina Diane Pie displayed a rather disturbing behaviour. While she would play with the other foals, tell them stories and make them laugh, she would also inflict severe pain on a regular basis- more than it was usual for kids her age. Pinkie found equal pleasure in causing smiles and tears, affection and terror, comfort and injury. It didn't make a difference to her, the only thing that mattered was to cause an intense reaction, to have power over others, who were mere playtoys in her eyes. This, Miss Sparkle, is what we call being a psychopath.

But then everything changed. Pinkemina is a clever girl. She started to realize that her antics caused others to turn away from her. At some point, she couldn't make them smile anymore because they would remember the times she made them scream all too well. Her world became empty and lonely. This is a dangerous situation. In some cases, it causes the frustrated psychopath to devote his or her life entirely to the infliction of pain, the only thing that always works. Not so Pinkemina. She came to the conclusion that in the long run, smiles were fun, and tears were boring. You can’t play with a broken toy. Drawing the consequences from her discovery, she repressed her violent pulsions altogether and directed her energies to the things that made ponies seek her company, rather than run away from her.

She would still do terrible things when she thought no one was watching, but these became fewer and fewer over the years. A split in her personality had occurred.

The Pinkie you know doesn't even remember the choice she has made. She has long forgotten that the reason she treats other ponies with kindness is that she made the conscious decision to do so. In other words, she thinks her empathy is real. She has become Pinkie Pie, consoler of the sad, protector of the weak. But that is only one side of her personality. For her violent pulsions survived as well. The other half, the dark one, is currently repressed, but will reveal itself under hypnosis."

Twilight Sparkle twitched. She remembered the last time she had tried a hypnosis spell on Pinkie herself.
The psychiatrist activated a record device he had pulled out of a drawer.

"Listen to this tape, please."

-"Good day, Miss Pie."

-"Call me Diane. We are friends, after all."

Diane. The name. The voice. Twilight shivered. Denial was no longer an option. Her own encounter with Pinkie’s dark half might have been a freak accident, but the creature itself was real, and it had been there for a long time.

-"How are you feeling... Diane?"

-"Angry, I'd say. Demented Rage, that sort of stuff. The usual. If you hadn't tied me down like a dog, I'd probably try to chew your head off. After playing with you for a while, that is.
Like I played with that hobo a while back. Oh, she thought I was an innocent little filly who was just curious and wanted to say hi to a stranger.
I killed her of course. Hanged her from a tree! Watched her wriggle. Watched her dance the Twilight Tango as the sun set over the woods. And then I hid the body in a ditch, under layers of rotten leafs. Her body was still warm when I felt the first cold brise of the night on my coat.
Her bones are still there, I presume.
She was a good wriggler. She lasted for a long time. I bet you would make a good wriggler too. You want to know what else I did to her, Doctor? I can give you as many details as you want. This is sortof a Catharsis for me. That's what we're trying to do here, isn't it?"

The doctor turned off the tape.

"Since she never gave us an exact location, we weren't able to find the body, if there even is a body. We can't tell whether or not these stories are true, but either way, I think Diane is giving us a pretty good insight into her personality. Her words speak for themselves.

We never revealed any of this to Pinkemina herself. We avoided the use of the term 'psychopath'. For if she found out what she really was- and all she'd have to do for that is to pick up a dictionary - if she found out that she is lacking something other ponies have, it might cause her to fall into a deep depression. There is no telling what sort of creature could emerge from that transformation."

Twilight was feeling sick.
"But with these recent events in the Everfree Forest..."

"... We fear that something might have given her a clue. Maybe she has already changed. In any case, there is only one group of ponies that can hope to capture her."

Twilight glanced at the police mare standing next to her. The brown earth pony nodded.

"Perhaps there isn't even a reason to worry. We don't have proof that she is connected to these... unfortunate events in any way. For all we know, Pinkemina is merely playing a really strange game of hide and seek. But we would be infinetely grateful if you and your friends could help us find her, Miss Sparkle. If only so we can dismiss her as a suspect."
