So this one's a bit of a departure. I'm using a couple of motifs I haven't used before, the Ladders (in black and white) and the Spiders (those swirly little white things). What do ladders and spiders have to do with Easter, you ask? This year we dig down deep into Rusyn symbolism. Spiders are considered good luck in our traditions and good to have around. They eat the bugs that endanger our crops as well as indoor bugs that can make us sick. So they are considered symbols of protection, good luck, and good health. I have backed them with blue, the color of magic, to give them some extra power to protect our health and devour the "bugs" causing this virus. Meanwhile the ladders guide us up into the light (symbolized by the sun at the top) and help us transcend into a higher level of understanding and civilization. So this egg symbolizes my wishes for the world this Easter: that we will defeat this virus and in the process raise ourselves up into a greater awareness of our connectedness to each other and to the earth, resulting in a new, more enlightened era of progress. Happy Easter, everyone; remember the sun will continue to rise, and every day brings new hope.
